The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is wrapping up, and the Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO) announced its yearly winners. Judges awarded 28 prizes across 6 categories, with four of them in the Device section:
- Best Smartphone: Google Pixel 8 series
- Breakthrough Device Innovation: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
- Best Connected Consumer Device: Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra
- Best in Show: Honor Magic V2 RSR Porsche Design
The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones won the coveted Best smartphone award, topping the iPhone 15 Pro series, Galaxy S23 lineup, Z Flip5, and the OnePlus Open/Oppo Find N3. The award is for “outstanding performance, innovation and leadership” for smartphones launched between January 2023 and December 2023.
The Breakthrough innovation category had shortlisted the silicon-carbon battery of the Magic V2, Google’s commitment to 7 years of updates and the AI imaging capabilities. Judges decided it is the Qualcomm’s latest chipset that deserves the award for “core hardware and software innovation within smartphone devices themselves”.
The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra triumphed in a rather diverse company, as other shortlisted devices were the Motorola Defy 2 with satellite communication by Bullitt, HTC Vive XR Elite, Huawei Watch Ultimate and RayNeo Air2 XR Glasses.
In the end, the Samsung tablet was voted to the top as it was found to be the best “everyday consumer electronic device or gadget that brings new and smart applications, efficiencies and functionality to the user, at home or on the move.”
The Best in Show winner was picked from launched products at the Congress. The Magic V2 RSR Porsche Edition, while technically introduced first in China, was unveiled to the international audience in Barcelona on February 25 during the Honor keynote.
