No Doubt, a popular band with the olds, has confirmed plans for a six-show stint at Sphere.<\/p>\n

The band, featuring lead singer Gwen Stefani, who once told a mutual friend we were \u201ccute,\u201d will perform at Sphere on May 6, 8, 9, 13, 15-16, 2026.<\/p>\n

The story was broken by TMZ<\/a> the day before the official announcement. TMZ stands for \u201cthirty-mile zone.\u201d If you get nothing else from the Internet today, you got that and you\u2019re welcome because that \u201cJeopardy\u201d question wasn\u2019t going to answer itself.<\/p>\n

In high school, Gwen Stefani was a competitive swimmer. If you guessed we have run out of clever photo captions, you are correct.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

TMZ (\u201cthirty-mile zone\u201d) got its name from an industry term referring to a \u201cstudio zone\u201d in California, 30 miles in radius from the intersection of Beverly Blvd. and La Cienega Blvd. in L.A. It is called the \u201cstudio zone\u201d because of the concentration of movie and TV studios within those boundaries.<\/p>\n

We are sharing this because some have referred to this blog as the \u201cTMZ of Las Vegas,\u201d and we never knew how to take that. From what we hear, TMZ gets its scoop by paying sources, sometimes referred to as \u201ccheckbook journalism.\u201d We have never paid anyone for scoop, although the idea of \u201ctipping for tips\u201d doesn\u2019t sound like a terrible business model.<\/p>\n

We don\u2019t want to be TMZ because they stepped on the No Doubt announcement when it was timed to happen on the 30th anniversary of the release of No Doubt\u2019s seminal album \u201cTragic Kingdom.\u201d That was October 10, 1995. In case you were offended by the \u201colds\u201d joke.<\/p>\n

Yes, \u201cseminal\u201d can refer to semen. In this case, it means \u201ca work strongly influencing later developments.\u201d Just like semen, but please grow up.<\/p>\n

That said, we are supposed to be writing about the No Doubt residency at Sphere.<\/p>\n

This is the official No Doubt publicity photo. Apparently, the band is standing inside a time machine. They\u2019re all in their late 50s now.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The term \u201cresidency\u201d is used loosely in Las Vegas now. Six shows is right at the cut-off of what\u2019s considered a residency, as opposed to just \u201cseveral shows in the same venue.\u201d The term \u201cresidency\u201d is just sexier for marketing purposes.<\/p>\n

This will be No Doubt\u2019s first extended run of shows in nearly 14 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cExtended run\u201d is a good way of putting it. That\u2019s also how we describe moving between two casinos on The Strip if one wants to avoid being pestered by buskers.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s now provide some perfunctory back story for No Doubt, since many of our fellow kids have no idea who we\u2019re referring to.<\/p>\n

No Doubt is a Southern California ska-punk band formed in 1986 in Anaheim by Gwen Stefani, her brother Eric, bassist Tony Kanal, guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian Young.<\/p>\n

Stefani had a long-term relationship with a bandmate. We are not going to mention his name in this paragraph because we want you to think for a moment, \u201cWait, her brother was her bandmate!\u201d<\/p>\n

No, it was Tony Kanal, the bassist. Their breakup was the inspiration for several No Doubt songs, most famously \u201cDon\u2019t Speak.\u201d<\/p>\n
