On October 3, Zach Bryan<\/a> posted a snippet<\/a> of an unreleased song on his Instagram with the caption \u201cthe fading of the red white and blue.\u201d \u201cI heard the cops came\/Cocky motherfuckers, ain\u2019t they?\u201d, Bryan sings on the track, which according to Stereogum<\/em><\/a> is titled \u201cBad News.\u201d \u201cAnd ICE is gonna come bust down your door\/Try to build a house that no one builds no more\/But I got a telephone\/Kids are scared and all alone.\u201d<\/p>\n Bryan\u2019s lyrics have since drawn the ire of the federal government\u2014a phenomenon that is becoming increasingly<\/a> common<\/a>. On October 7, Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary of public affairs for the United States Department of Homeland Security, told TMZ<\/a> that Bryan should \u201cstick to \u2018Pink Skies,\u2019\u201d referencing a song from his 2024 album The Great American Bar Scene<\/em><\/a>. DHS went on to taunt Bryan by using his song \u201cRevival\u201d in a recruitment video<\/a>.<\/p>\n Bryan has since responded with a statement clarifying that, when the finished song is out, we will see that \u201cthe full context that hits on both sides of the aisle,\u201d as he put it in an Instagram story. Rather than standing up for communities targeted by ICE and the Trump administration, he is \u201cjust a 29 year old man who is just as confused as everyone else,\u201d he says, and the debacle shows \u201chow divisive a narrative can be when shoved down our throats through social media.\u201d He adds, \u201cLeft wing or right wing we\u2019re all one bird and American.
