As foretold by the self-proclaimed \u201cBest Las Vegas Blog in History, Ever,\u201d Hard Rock is hosting an auction of Mirage\u2019s art<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The online auction features 340 items, most of them incredibly boring. The ones that aren\u2019t boring, however, are extremely not boring.<\/p>\n

You can\u2019t afford them, but that is neither here nor there. It\u2019s the freaking Mirage, and we didn\u2019t miss it until it was gone. Let\u2019s see what\u2019s up for grabs, emphasis on grabs. Consensually, of course.<\/p>\n

The auction of Mirage\u2019s hand-me-downs has been much-anticipated.<\/p>\n

We got wind the auction was happening and shared it prior to the go-live.<\/p>\n

The Mirage auction link<\/a> was officially announced the following day. We didn\u2019t get our self-proclaimed title for nothing.<\/p>\n

If you visit the auction site, you will see 15 pages of items up for sale, most of them \u201chotel art.\u201d They have no real connection to the Mirage, no logos or other identifying characteristics to make them collectible.<\/p>\n

Some items don\u2019t need a logo. They are iconic.<\/p>\n

Of course, we\u2019re talking about the mermaids<\/a>. These statues greeted guests for decades and possessed the second most-rubbed surfaces in Las Vegas for good luck. Cleopatra at Caesars Palace was first.<\/p>\n

1) Never mention a woman\u2019s weight. 2) Mermaids aren\u2019t, technically, women. 3) This woman weighs 650 pounds.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Here are more Las Vegas things you can rub for good luck<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Yes, it is now inappropriate to sexualize statues. Back in yesteryear, though, it was a rubfest. And by \u201cyesteryear,\u201d we mean several weeks ago when the \u201cCrazy Girls\u201d statue was put on display at Circa<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Anyway, Las Vegas isn\u2019t about your agenda or delicate sensibilities. Boobs are woven into the fabric of Las Vegas culture. If you don\u2019t like the idea of boobs being good luck charms, do not bid on the Mirage mermaids.<\/p>\n

Bid on the dolphins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Another item of actual value<\/a> is a \u201cChihuly Blown Glass Sculpture.\u201d Honestly, we could not have chosen a better name for this item and we are very creative.<\/p>\n

Those are far and away the most interesting items in the Mirage auction, but you should do some browsing to see if anything catches your eye or fancy.<\/p>\n

Some of the strangest items up for sale are pieces of the Mirage\u2019s former volcano<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pretty much the ideal Las Vegas keychain or paperweight.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

No, really. The Mirage volcano wasn\u2019t made of rocks, it was fashioned from fiberglass and resin.<\/p>\n

If you put one of these pieces on display in your home, it will be an endless source of conversation, and by that we mean your spouse will constantly ask why you have one of these pieces on display in your home.<\/p>\n

Housekeeping: Absentee bidding for these Mirage items is available now through Sep. 19, 2025, with live bidding beginning Sep. 20 at 10:00 a.m.<\/p>\n

Bigass heads up: Included in the auction\u2019s small print is the fact there\u2019s a 23% \u201cbuyer\u2019s premium\u201d on winning bids. That \u201cpremium\u201d is akin to a \u201cmandatory auto-gratuity\u201d on your restaurant bill.<\/p>\n

A \u201cbuyer\u2019s premium\u201d in an auction is an additional fee (in this case a percentage of the winning bid) a buyer pays to the auction house on top of the final hammer price. It helps cover the costs associated with running the auction. Just so you have time to gird.<\/p>\n

How high will bids for the most coveted items go? The over-under is about $50,000 on the mermaids and Chihuly art.<\/p>\n

Our prediction is also that Circa owner Derek Stevens gets one of the mermaids.<\/p>\n

If we hit Megabucks, we\u2019re getting both mermaids and some volcano parts.<\/p>\n
