There\u2019s a new-old roulette bet in town being billed as \u201cRoulette\u2019s Best Bet.\u201d It\u2019s right on the felt, so it must be true! The side bet, \u201c2G\u2019$,\u201d is available at casinos in the Caesars Entertainment family of casinos.<\/p>\n

The \u201c2G\u2019$\u201d bet gives a big payout if a player hits two green spaces in a row. And, yes, it uses a dollar symbol rather than an \u201cs.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also one of the worst bets in a casino, ever. How can a bet be both the \u201cbest\u201d and \u201cworst\u201d simultaneously? We are here to help.<\/p>\n

Side bets are like quicksand disguised as a dance floor.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The \u201c2G\u2019$\u201d bet has been around since 2020, where it made its debut at Gold Coast. It\u2019s new at Caesars Entertainment casinos, though. Caesars operates eight resorts, about a quarter of the casinos on the Las Vegas Strip.<\/p>\n

\u201c2G\u2019$\u201d is available on roulette tables with double zeroes and the much-derided triple zeroes, each with a different payout.<\/p>\n

On double zero, hitting two greens in a row pays 280-to-1. By comparison, betting on an individual number and hitting it pays a paltry 35-to-1.<\/p>\n

On triple zero, it pays 130-to-1.<\/p>\n

When this side bet first appeared<\/a> at Gold Coast, it was available on double zero games only and paid 350-to-1. The house edge was 2.77%. That\u2019s pretty good!<\/p>\n

Now, the buzzkill: A payout of 280-to-1 moves the house edge to a jaw-dropping 22.16%.<\/p>\n

On triple zero, a payout of 130-to-1 has a 22.49% house edge.<\/p>\n

For some perspective, overall, the house edge in double zero roulette is 5.26% (7.69% for triple zero), which is why roulette is considered one of the worst games to play in a casino.<\/p>\n

The worst bet on a double zero table before \u201cRoulette\u2019s Best Bet\u201d was the basket bet<\/a> (the 0, 00, 1, 2, 3 combination), with a house edge of 7.89%.<\/p>\n

Now, the reality check.<\/p>\n

Can side bets (sometimes called \u201csucker\u201d bets) be fun? Absolutely.<\/p>\n

Do such bets win? Of course.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a whole tribe of people who rail against triple zero roulette and claim they will never play it.<\/p>\n

The fact is, most players don\u2019t care all that much about math. (We are one of those players.)<\/p>\n

Triple zero roulette tables often have lower minimums, which is a draw for many Las Vegas visitors.<\/p>\n

Even when the minimums are the same, people are just as likely to play double zero as triple, despite the odds being worse.<\/p>\n

People play where it\u2019s convenient and where they feel lucky.<\/p>\n

Math is both the reason Las Vegas exists, and it is the opposite of Las Vegas.<\/p>\n
