Then, three years ago, Col\u00adin Trevorrow\u2019s\u00a0Juras\u00adsic World<\/a>\u00a0attempt\u00aded to\u00a0clas\u00adsi\u00adfy the fran\u00adchise de-extinct by\u00a0refram\u00ading the eth\u00adi\u00adcal and moral\u00a0ques\u00adtions\u00a0con\u00adtained\u00a0with\u00adin the\u00a0orig\u00adi\u00adnal sto\u00adry\u00a0for our\u00a0trou\u00adbled mod\u00adern\u00a0times.<\/p>\n Specif\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly it asked not whether humanity\u2019s impulse\u00a0to exer\u00adcise auton\u00ado\u00admy over all life on earth \u2013 both present and past \u2013 is\u00a0inher\u00adent\u00adly destruc\u00adtive, but whether we have now reached the point of no return regard\u00ading the long-term preser\u00adva\u00adtion of the plan\u00adet. But then again,\u00a0many would argue that the\u00a0world remains fun\u00adda\u00admen\u00adtal\u00adly the same, and as such it is\u00a0fit\u00adting that,\u00a0more than any\u00adthing else,\u00a0JA<\/span> Bayona\u2019s\u00a0Juras\u00adsic World: Fall\u00aden King\u00addom<\/a> feels like an exer\u00adcise in accel\u00ader\u00adat\u00aded sta\u00adsis. Or, to put it in basic genet\u00adic terms,\u00a0the mid\u00adpoint of the sec\u00adond tril\u00ado\u00adgy in this phe\u00adnom\u00ade\u00adnal\u00adly pop\u00adu\u00adlar series\u00a0rep\u00adre\u00adsents\u00a0not an essen\u00adtial or rad\u00adi\u00adcal\u00a0muta\u00adtion but the pro\u00adlif\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion of a\u00a0reces\u00adsive gene. It\u2019s a\u00a0case of fail\u00adure by design, of ideas being fast-tracked through before they\u2019ve had time to ges\u00adtate, a\u00a0series of fatal mis\u00adcal\u00adcu\u00adla\u00adtions in\u00a0the DNA<\/span> sequencing.<\/p>\n Ini\u00adtial\u00adly\u00a0the film promis\u00ades some\u00adthing tooth\u00adier, mean\u00ader, more\u00a0impres\u00adsive. Yet the fail\u00adure of\u00a0screen\u00adwrit\u00aders Trevor\u00adrow and Derek Con\u00adnol\u00adly to heed the cau\u00adtion\u00adary refrain that\u00a0rever\u00adber\u00adates\u00a0through\u00adout this and every oth\u00ader Juras\u00adsic Park\u00a0film quick\u00adly\u00a0becomes appar\u00adent.\u00a0Iron\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly enough, it is the inabil\u00adi\u00adty to\u00a0learn from past mis\u00adtakes that dooms Fall\u00aden King\u00addom\u00a0from the start. For instance, dear old Rexy is no longer the\u00a0top car\u00adni\u00advore on cam\u00adpus \u2013 but nei\u00adther is Blue, the hyper-intel\u00adli\u00adgent Veloci\u00adrap\u00adtor cre\u00adat\u00aded by InGen and trained by Chris Pratt\u2019s behav\u00adiour\u00adal research guru, Owen Grady, and nor is the fear\u00adsome Indomi\u00adnus rex intro\u00adduced last time around. Yes,\u00a0this film boasts an all-new alpha attrac\u00adtion, one\u00a0even\u00a0stranger and sil\u00adli\u00ader than its predecessors.<\/p>\n Anoth\u00ader issue is the set\u00adting.\u00a0In\u00a0an explo\u00adsive ear\u00adly set-piece, a\u00a0long-dor\u00admant vol\u00adcano splurts vio\u00adlent\u00adly back into life. As Isla Nublar erupts, giants turn to dust, and the essence of Crichton\/\u200bSpielberg\/\u200bJohn Hammond\u2019s\u00a0spec\u00adtac\u00adu\u00adlar vision\u00a0is snuffed out \u2013 engulfed\u00a0by a\u00a0ris\u00ading molten tide. The point here is that switch\u00ading focus away from the park effec\u00adtive\u00adly\u00a0negates the franchise\u2019s rich\u00adest and most dynam\u00adic char\u00adac\u00adter: the island itself. The\u00a0gyros\u00adpheres that fea\u00adtured so promi\u00adnent\u00adly in Juras\u00adsic World\u00a0may have seemed\u00a0lit\u00adtle more than a\u00a0nov\u00adel update\u00a0on the Jeeps from the first film, but\u00a0cru\u00adcial\u00adly they\u00a0enabled us to fur\u00adther explore this com\u00adplex\u00a0envi\u00adron\u00adment in all its del\u00adi\u00adcate\u00adly-bal\u00adanced, ter\u00adri\u00adfy\u00ading glo\u00adry.\u00a0As ever, life finds a\u00a0way, yet it\u2019s hard to shake the\u00a0sense that while the movies\u00a0keep get\u00adting\u00a0big\u00adger, the\u00a0dream\u00a0keeps\u00a0get\u00adting smaller.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\nGet more Lit\u00adtle White\u00a0Lies<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
