Walter Scott, a co-founding member of the R&B group the Whispers<\/a>, has died, the Los Angeles Sentinel<\/em><\/a> reports. Scott had been living with cancer for six months, and he died in the Northridge neighborhood of Los Angeles, according to the report. Scott was 81 years old.<\/p>\n Scott and his twin brother, Wallace \u201cScotty\u201d Scott, co-founded the Whispers, in California, with Nicholas Caldwell<\/a>, Marcus Hutson, and Gordy Harmon<\/a> in the early 1960s. The group released its first singles in 1964 through Dor\u00e9 Records, but an album did not materialize until 1969 in the form of Planets of Life<\/em>, released via Soul Clock.<\/p>\n Despite a prolific output, the Whispers did not find commercial success until the late 1970s when they joined Dick Griffey\u2019s SOLAR Records. The group\u2019s 1979 self-titled album, in particular, was hugely popular and contained the band\u2019s signature song, \u201cAnd the Beat Goes On<\/a>.\u201d Subsequent albums, like 1980\u2019s Imagination<\/em>, 1982\u2019s Love Is Where You Find It<\/em>, and 1987\u2019s Just Gets Better With Time<\/em>, solidified the Whispers as a reliable force in the worlds of soul, R&B, and disco.<\/p>\n The Roots\u2019 Questlove eulogized Walter Scott on Instagram<\/a>, calling him \u201cone of the most trusted voices in 70s soul music.\u201d<\/p>\n
