Meanwhile, Shayne Gostisbehere, Seth Jarvis, Taylor Hall, Sean Walker, and Andrei Svechnikov got the tallies for the Carolina Hurricanes.<\/p>\n<p>So, let\u2019s take a closer look at the three least impressive Washington Capitals players from their Game 4 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night.<\/p>\n<h2>3 least impressive Washington Capitals players from Game 4 loss to Carolina Hurricanes<\/h2>\n<h3>#3 Alexander Alexeyev<\/h3>\n<p>Alexander Alexeyev has essentially become an afterthought on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/us\/nhl\/news-johnny-gaudreau-s-sister-katie-drops-one-word-reaction-eric-robinson-s-first-playoff-goal-capitals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">Washington Capitals\u2019<\/a> blue line. He played for just 5:48 across eight shifts.<\/p>\n<p>At this point, the Capitals are essentially playing with five defensemen, making Alexeyev expandable. Perhaps it\u2019s time that the Capitals experimented with Dylan McIlrath instead of giving Alexeyev just five minutes a night.<\/p>\n<h3>#2 Nic Dowd<\/h3>\n<p>Nic Dowd continues to be a liability on the ice for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/us\/nhl\/news-alex-ovechkin-s-wife-nastasiya-shares-custom-nike-gift-celebrating-historic-895th-goal-breaking-wayne-gretzky-s-nhl-record\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">Washington Capitals<\/a>. In Game 4, Dowd, along with his fourth-line teammates were burned twice, leading to Carolina goals.<\/p>\n<p>The Canes were able to use their speed to blow past the Dowd and Brandon Duhaime. Here\u2019s a look at a good example:<\/p>\n<p>Shayne Gostisbehere undressed Duhaime and then put a shot on net where Dowd was unable to clear the front of the net. The shot got through, fooling Capitals\u2019 netminder Logan Thompson.<\/p>\n<p>The Capitals need to get more reliable defensive play from their fourth line as getting burned like that has been the difference between getting back in the game, and falling behind in the series.<\/p>\n<h3>#1 Logan Thompson<\/h3>\n<p>The Capitals\u2019 starting netminder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/us\/nhl\/logan-thompson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-is-sponsored=\"false\">Logan Thompson<\/a> had a tough night against the Hurricanes. While he can\u2019t be blamed for every goal, such as Gostisbehere\u2019s opening tally, there were two goals that Thompson would have liked to get back.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a look:<\/p>\n<p>Sebastian Aho\u2019s shot fooled Thompson, leaving him unable to make the save. While Thompson managed to get a piece of the shot, he didn\u2019t react in time to prevent Seth Jarvis from popping the puck home.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s another:<\/p>\n<p>Hall completely fooled Thompson by firing the puck to his blocker side. Thompson\u2019s initial move was to his glove side, but as he took the bait, Hall pulled the puck back and fired a missile to the top corner.<\/p>\n<p>Both goals were ones that Thompson could have stopped.
