Her unexpected confession shed light on why she now keeps her guard up and doesn&#8217;t easily let people in.<\/p>\n<p>Raducanu is currently in Rome for the Italian Open, marking her ninth tournament of the 2025 season. It hasn\u2019t been the smoothest year for her so far, with her standout performance being a quarterfinal run in Miami. She\u2019ll be hoping to turn things around on clay this week.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the tournament, the Brit spoke to The Guardian about several aspects of her life. While discussing her strong sense of independence, Raducanu admitted that life isn\u2019t a cakewalk and said she has learned from experience not to trust everyone, a lesson shaped by past disappointments.<\/p>\n<p><template id=\"also-read-articles-template\"><\/p>\n<p><\/template><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI\u2019m someone who keeps things to myself and it takes a lot for me to open up,\u201d she said. \u201cI haven\u2019t really opened up to many people in my life, truly, but the ones that I really trust, I do. And the thing is with me, once I let someone in, I let them in fully and I care for them so much, and I have been burnt a few times.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Emma Raducanu continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cA few people who I\u2019ve really trusted have surprised me, but I guess that\u2019s life, and I still have some great people around me who I really trust, and I\u2019m working on it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI mean, part of me doesn\u2019t like talking too much about any problems, because it makes it into a bigger problem. She&#8217;s staying optimistic, focusing on taking each day as it comes, and hoping to build some momentum on the clay.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;It is exciting, it does feel like a bit of a fresh start with the way I am approaching everything, with the people I have around, with my mindset and outlook,\u201d she told Sky Sports.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI feel more optimistic, I feel pretty positive about things going forward.
