Maine Governor Janet Mills<\/strong> has been in politics since the early 2000s, but she\u2019s recently making headlines over her tense interaction with Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a> at the White House. While attending a governors meeting with the president on February 21, 2025, Mills and Trump clashed over his policies on transgender athletes. The heated exchange sparked curiosity among voters around the United States, and many want to learn more about her.<\/p>\n Shortly before attending the White House event, Mills threatened legal action against Trump if he \u201cattempts to unilaterally deprive Maine school children of the benefit of federal funding,\u201d adding that her administration \u201cand the attorney general will take all appropriate and necessary legal action to restore that funding and the academic opportunity it provides,\u201d according to the Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n In response, Trump called out Mills during the meeting by asking her, \u201cAre you not going to comply with [my executive order regarding transgender athletes]?\u201d to which she responded, \u201cI\u2019m complying with state and federal laws.\u201d<\/p>\n The president then nudged, \u201cWe are the federal law,\u201d and the Democratic governor noted, \u201cWe are going to follow the law.\u201d The tension rose once Trump said, \u201cYou\u2019d better comply. Otherwise, you\u2019re not getting any federal funding.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ll see you in court,\u201d Mills retorted, to which Trump concluded, \u201cGood, I\u2019ll see you in court. I look forward to that. That should be a real easy one.
