Known for not pulling any punches in her song lyrics \u2014 such as in her hit \u201cRata de doe patas\u201d \u2014 Paquita was an inspiration to millions of women across Latin America. Unfortunately, the late Grammy nominee <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/feature\/paquita-la-del-barrio-cause-of-death-5370714\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\">died<\/a> when she was 77 in February 2025.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-3\">While speaking with the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/news\/nation-world\/world\/americas\/article1930028.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\"><em> Miami Herald<\/em> <\/a>in 2008, Paquita got candid about her bold and edgy song lyrics, many of which tell the stories of cheating boyfriends or controversial exes.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-4\">\u201cI am defending women. It is very important,\u201d Paquita told the publication that year. \u201cI am a woman. I speak of my experiences. \u2026 We Mexicans have this machismo situation. Women are always hurt by what men do to them. I don\u2019t sing what others sing. I sing the truth, even if the gentleman don\u2019t like it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-5\">Fans grieved the loss of Paquita after news of her death broke. In 2021, she ran for State Congress in Veracruz as part of the Citizens\u2019 Movement party.<\/p>\n<h2>Paquita Inspired a TV Series About Her Life<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-10\">Sony Pictures Television and Imagen Televisi\u00f3n produced a series roughly inspired by Paquita\u2019s career titled <em>Paquita la Del Barrio<\/em>.
