Scream 5<\/i><\/a>, the latest installment in the popular slasher film franchise, has quite the star-studded cast. For starters, you have Scream<\/em> veterans\u00a0Courteney Cox<\/strong><\/a>, David Arquette<\/strong><\/a>, and Neve Campbell<\/strong><\/a> back for the fifth movie. Marley Shelton<\/strong>, who first appeared in Scream 4<\/em>, will return as well. Plus, there\u2019s a talented group of actors who are joining the\u00a0Scream\u00a0<\/em>franchise. Mikey Madison<\/strong>, 22, is among those new faces. She\u2019ll be playing Amber Freeman in the film, which arrives in theaters on January 14.<\/p>\n

1. Mikey was a competitive horseback rider.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Mikey was involved in a much different career before acting. While growing up in Los Angeles, Mikey was pursuing competitive horseback riding. But once she turned 15, that changed. \u201cAll of a sudden, I became really interested in this,\u201d she told Vulture<\/a> <\/em>in April 2019 when asked about her origins in acting. \u201cI\u2019m not really sure what sparked that in my head, but it did. My dad\u2019s a big film buff, so I think I acquired some of those traits.\u201d Mikey also explained that while no one in her family was involving in acting, she \u201cmet the right people along the way and got really lucky.\u201d<\/p>\n

2. She has 4 siblings.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Mikey comes from a big family. \u201cI have two older sisters who are in their 30s, a twin brother, and another brother,\u201d she told InStyle<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>in November 2016. \u201cSo right now I\u2019m living with two teenage boys at home. Me and my brothers all have different personalities and we definitely clash over living together in a small space,\u201d the actress added. One of Mikey\u2019s sisters is married to a film writer, which, according to Women\u2019s Wear Daily<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0helped inspire her to pursue acting.<\/p>\n

3. She made her acting debut in 2013.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Mikey\u2019s very first acting role was in the 2013 short film\u00a0Retirement<\/em>, according to her IMDb page<\/a>. The California native starred in her first feature film,\u00a0Liza, Liza, Skies are Grey<\/em>, in 2015. Her next film roles were 2018\u2019s\u00a0Monster\u00a0<\/em>and Nostalgia<\/em>. Then, Mikey snagged a role in Quentin Tarantino<\/strong>\u2018s\u00a0Once\u00a0Upon a Time In Hollywood<\/i><\/a> opposite Brad Pitt<\/strong>, Leonardo DiCaprio<\/strong>, Margaret Qualley<\/strong>, Margot Robbie<\/strong>, Timothy Olyphant<\/strong>, Austin Butler<\/strong>, Dakota Fanning<\/strong>, Al Pacino<\/strong>, and more stars. She played Sadie, a follower of the deadly Manson family. Mikey also voiced Candi the Barista in the animated\u00a0The Addams Family\u00a0<\/em>movie. On television, she\u2019s starred in FX\u2019s\u00a0Better Things\u00a0<\/em>(more on that below) and appeared on two episodes of\u00a0Imposters\u00a0<\/em>on Bravo.<\/p>\n

4. She stars in \u2018Better Things\u2019.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

So far, Mikey\u2019s most notable acting role has been Max Fox in\u00a0Better Things<\/i>. She\u2019s been among the show\u2019s main cast since it premiered in 2016. Her character, Max, is the volatile and angry daughter of Pamela Adlon<\/strong>\u2018s Sam Fox. Better Things\u00a0<\/i>also stars Hannah Alligood<\/strong>, Olivia Edward<\/strong>, and Celia Imrie<\/strong>. The fifth and final season premieres on February 28.<\/p>\n

Mikey talked about her love for playing Max on\u00a0Better Things\u00a0<\/em>in her\u00a0InStyle\u00a0<\/em>interview. \u201cI definitely gravitate toward characters that have a lot of integrity and it\u2019s so important to be to be working on shows that tell great stories,\u201d she explained. \u201cI think you have to be a little in love with the character you\u2019re playing because that way you can\u2019t judge the decisions they make that you have to play out on screen, and that\u2019s certainly the case with Max.\u201d<\/p>\n

5. Mikey is a new addition to the \u2018Scream\u2019 franchise.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Mikey is making a very exciting debut in the\u00a0Scream\u00a0<\/em>franchise. In an interview with The\u00a0Movie Times<\/i><\/a>, she said she loves horror films and that she \u201cwas a big fan\u201d of the first\u00a0Scream\u00a0<\/em>movie. \u201cOne of the pitches that the directors talked to me about is that they were trying to make it feel like the original. I just loved talking to them. I had good chemistry with them right away. I was attracted to it right from the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Joining Mikey for\u00a0Scream 5\u00a0<\/em>is fellow newcomers Melissa Barrera<\/strong><\/a>, Mason Gooding<\/strong><\/a>, Jenna Ortega<\/strong><\/a>, Jack Quaid<\/strong><\/a>, and Dylan Minnette<\/strong><\/a>. Fans will have to watch the film to see if Mikey\u2019s Amber and the other\u00a0new characters in Scream 5<\/em>\u00a0survive the terrifying Ghostface masked killer.<\/p>\n
