Amid Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s changes to the United States government, the Gulf of Mexico<\/a> has become a major topic in the president\u2019s administration. Within weeks of Trump\u2019s call to change its name, Google Maps has given the public an update. The region is now labeled the Gulf of America, so why did Google change its name after 400 years?<\/p>\n In January, Trump informed reporters from his Mar-A-Lago estate that his administration was \u201cgoing to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. Gulf of America \u2014 what a beautiful name. People using Maps in the U.S. will see \u2018Gulf of America,\u2019 and people in Mexico will see \u2018Gulf of Mexico.\u2019 Everyone else will see both names.\u201d<\/p>\n Therefore, per Google\u2019s statement, other countries aside from the U.S. and Mexico will see the body of water on Google Maps as \u201cGulf of Mexico (Gulf of America).\u201d<\/p>\n We\u2019ve received a few questions about naming within Google Maps.
