Everyone\u2019s feeling fantastic about the new Fantastic Four: First Steps<\/em>. After years of fan-casting and rumors, Marvel announced the actors who would be taking on the roles of Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm in a 2024 Valentine\u2019s Day message.<\/p>\n

This won\u2019t be the first time these Fantastic Four<\/em> characters have been seen on the big screen. Ioan Gruffudd<\/strong>, Jessica Alba<\/strong><\/a>, Chris Evans<\/strong><\/a>, and Michael Chiklis<\/strong> starred in the 2005 film adaptation and the 2007 sequel. Chris went on to nab the role of Steve Rogers\/Captain America and helped shape the MCU into what it is today.<\/p>\n

A reboot with Miles Teller<\/strong><\/a>, Kate Mara<\/strong>, Michael B. Jordan<\/strong><\/a>, and Jamie Bell<\/strong> was released in 2015. The film was unfortunately a box office bomb. The rights to the Fantastic Four<\/em> characters reverted to Marvel Studios when Disney acquired 21st Century Fox in 2019.<\/p>\n

So, what do we know about the new Fantastic Four<\/em>? When is it coming out? Hollywood Life<\/strong> is breaking down everything we know so far.<\/p>\n

Who Are The Actors In The New \u2018Fantastic Four\u2019?<\/h2>\n

Marvel Studios confirmed the Fantastic Four casting on February 14, 2024. A Valentine\u2019s Day poster of the cast in character was shared across social media. Here\u2019s who is playing the film\u2019s 4 major roles: <\/span>Pedro Pascal<\/strong><\/a> is Mr. Fantastic\/Reed Richards, <\/span>Vanessa Kirby<\/strong><\/a> is The Invisible Woman\/Sue Storm, <\/span>Joseph Quinn<\/strong><\/a> as The Human Torch\/Johnny Storm, and <\/span>Ebon Moss-Bachrach<\/strong> is The Thing\/Ben Grimm.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jeff Sneider<\/strong><\/a> reported in August 2023 that Vanessa and Joseph were \u201cbeing eyed\u201d for the roles of siblings Sue and Johnny Storm. Vanessa is coming off her latest run as the White Widow in Mission: Impossible \u2014 Dead Reckoning Part One<\/em>. She notably played Princess Margaret in the first two seasons of The Crown<\/em>. She earned an Oscar nomination for her role in Pieces of a Woman<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Joseph had his breakout moment as Eddie Munson in <\/span>Stranger Things<\/span><\/em> Season 4, was cast in the Gladiator<\/em><\/a><\/span>\u00a0sequel, and starred alongside Lupita Nyong\u2019o<\/strong> <\/a>in the <\/span>Quiet Place<\/span><\/em> prequel.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pedro Pascal<\/strong><\/a> had been in talks to play Mr. Fantastic\/Reed Richards for quite some time, according to Deadline<\/em><\/a>. In the months leading up to the announcement, scheduling was \u201cstill being worked out,\u201d but negotiations are \u201cheaded in the right direction\u201d for The Last of Us<\/em> star to step into the coveted Fantastic Four<\/em> role. The actor is currently filming The Last of Us<\/em> season 2.<\/p>\n

Ebon Moss-Bachrach<\/strong><\/a> was a name that came up late in the game for The Thing. The Bear<\/em> star has skyrocketed to fame after his critically acclaimed performance in the first two seasons of the FX series. The actor previously won an Emmy and Golden Globe for his role as Richie.<\/p>\n

According to Jeff\u2019s report, Marvel had secret screen tests for Reed Richards before the SAG-AFTRA strike. Christopher Abbott<\/strong> and Jamie Dornan<\/strong> reportedly participated. Marvel wanted a \u201cbigger name\u201d and approached Jake Gyllenhaal<\/strong><\/a> for the role, but he wanted \u201ctoo much money.\u201d Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige<\/strong> feared the cast was \u201cway too white\u201d and sought to diversify the cast with the Mr. Fantastic role.<\/p>\n

Jack Quaid\u2019s<\/strong> name was also popular amongst fans for the role of Johnny Storm, but The Boys<\/em> star took to Twitter to refute the rumors<\/a>. \u201cHello everyone. Nope. As for Mr. Fantastic, John Krasinski<\/strong><\/a> had been a popular choice for years, even more so after his appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness<\/em>. However, it was also reported that House of the Dragon<\/em><\/a> star Matt Smith<\/strong><\/a> was \u201cin discussions\u201d for the role but sources didn\u2019t \u201cexpect that deal to work out.\u201d Adam Driver<\/strong><\/a> reportedly passed on the role. Dev Patel\u2019s<\/strong> name was on the Mr. Fantastic shortlist, according to film reporter Grace Randolph<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u2018Fantastic Four\u2019 Release Date<\/h2>\n

Fantastic Four<\/em> is set to release on July 25, 2025. The film\u00a0will be directed by Matt Shakman<\/strong>. He notably directed 9 episodes of Disney+\u2019s WandaVision<\/em>. He was initially set to direct a Star Trek<\/em> sequel, but he left the project to helm Fantastic Four<\/em>. Matt told The Wrap<\/em><\/a> in February 2023 that the Fantastic Four<\/em> directing opportunity was \u201cjust too hard to pass up.\u201d He also noted that filming was expected to start in early 2024.<\/p>\n

No, Pedro Pascal is taking on the role of Mr. Fantastic in the 2025 film. Although John Krasinsk<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0previously played the superhero, his brief run as Mr. Fantastic is likely over.\u00a0<\/span>The actor made a cameo appearance as Mr. Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness<\/em><\/a>, giving a legion of fans the Reed Richards they\u2019d been fan-casting for years. Despite playing the iconic superhero in the MCU \u2014 albeit in an alternate universe \u2014 John\u2019s version of Mr. Fantastic died at the hands of Wanda Maximoff.<\/p>\n

In December 2022, The Office<\/em> alum revealed whether or not there had been any ongoing discussions about him continuing the role in the future. \u201cThere aren\u2019t any discussions at all, the only discussion I had was actually in the second-to-last week of Jack Ryan<\/em>,\u201d John told The Wrap<\/em><\/a>. \u201cKevin Feige<\/strong> called and said would you ever fly to L.A. and play in our sandbox for a day? I was honored to do it. I flew right from Budapest when we wrapped and went right to the Doctor Strange<\/em> set.
