The ink is dry<\/a> on\u00a0Bill<\/a>\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0Melinda Gates<\/a><\/strong>\u2018 <\/a>divorce papers. But that doesn\u2019t mean the iconic business leader has left it all in the past. In a new interview, he claimed \u201cregret\u201d following his split from Melinda after 27 years of marriage. \u201cThe divorce thing was miserable for me and Melinda for at least two years,\u201d he told The Times of London<\/em> <\/a>for an interview published on January 25.\u00a0 \u201cThere is a certain wonderfulness to spending your entire adult life with one person because of the memories and depth of things you have done and having kids together.\u201d<\/p>\n

While admitting he\u2019s \u201cmore cheerful now,\u201d he also called the epic split \u201cthe mistake I regret the most.\u201d Still, that hasn\u2019t stopped Bill, 69, from moving forward \u2014 he\u2019s frequently seen with Paula Heard<\/strong>, who was married to the late Oracle CEO Mark Hurd<\/strong>, who died in 2019.<\/p>\n

According to PEOPLE<\/a><\/em>, Bill and Paula confirmed their relationship in February of 2023 \u2014 though the couple had been seen together as early as September of 2022, when they attended the Laver Cup. The philanthropist and mom of two was previously married to Mark Hurd for 30 years before he passed away after an unspecified illness. Per PEOPLE<\/em>, when the couple confirmed their budding romance in April of 2023, an insider said the relationship was \u201cwidely known.\u201d In August of 2023, they upped the ante by attending the lavish engagement party<\/a> of Lauren Sanchez<\/strong><\/a> and Jeff Bezos<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 2022, Melinda sat down with CBS Mornings<\/a> <\/em>and admitted that there \u201cwasn\u2019t one moment or one specific thing that happened\u201d that led to their divorce. \u201cThere just came a point in time where there was enough there that I realized it just wasn\u2019t healthy, and I couldn\u2019t trust what we had,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

She also addressed her ex-husband\u2019s affair with a staffer two decades ago \u2014 an indiscretion Bill admitted to in May of 2021, per PEOPLE<\/em><\/a>. \u201cI certainly believe in forgiveness, so I thought we had worked through some of that,\u201d Melinda told CBS Mornings.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
