Norah O\u2019Donnell<\/strong><\/a> has officially said goodbye to\u00a0CBS Evening News<\/em><\/a>, which she called the \u201chonor of a lifetime.\u201d<\/p>\n

The veteran CBS journalist became the lead anchor of the iconic news program, which has been on the air since 1947, in 2019, taking over for Jeff Glor<\/strong>. She followed in the footsteps of broadcasting legends like Walter Cronkite<\/strong> and Dan Rather<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

During her final broadcast on Thursday, January 23, O\u2019Donnell reflected on her time with the program, saying, \u201cThe CBS Evening News\u00a0<\/em>is, for good reason, the longest-running evening newscast in America, and it has been powered by the finest journalists around the world \u2014 the correspondents, producers and researchers and crews who work tirelessly to bring you the news every night. And that won\u2019t change, because journalism matters. I know that, because I have heard it from so many of you viewers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for trusting us and welcoming hard news with heart into your homes.\u201d<\/p>\n

1. She was the second woman ever to host CBS Evening News<\/em> solo in its 72-year history.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

After O\u2019Donnell took over for Glor on May 20, 2019, she made history as the second woman to lead CBS Evening News<\/em>. The investigative journalist, who began her career 25 years ago, followed in the footsteps of Katie Couric<\/strong>, who hosted the show from 2006 to 2011. While Connie Chung<\/strong> also hosted Evening News<\/em> from 1993 to 1995, she co-anchored with Rather.<\/p>\n

\u201cNorah is one of the leading journalists of our time,\u201d CBS News President <\/span>Susan Zirinsky<\/strong> said <\/span>in a statement<\/a> at the time.\u00a0\u201cHer outstanding reporting, incisive interviews and dedication to the truth will distinguish the <\/span>CBS Evening News<\/em> every night.\u201d She would also serve as the show\u2019s managing editor.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. O\u2019Donnell transitioned from CBS This Morning<\/em>.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

O\u2019Donnell joined CBS This Morning<\/em> in 2012 as a co-host with Gayle King<\/strong> and Charlie Rose<\/strong>. Rose left the program in 2017 after being accused of sexual harassment. O\u2019Donnell addressed the situation on air, and slammed Rose, saying, \u201cLet me be very clear, there is no excuse for this alleged behavior\u2026 Women cannot achieve equality in the workplace or in society until there is a reckoning and a taking of responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

After O\u2019Donnell left the program, King became the lead host of CBS This Morning<\/em>. She was joined by two other familiar CBS faces: Anthony Mason<\/strong> and Tony Dokoupil<\/strong>.\u00a0\u201cGayle\u2019s game-changing interviews, compassionate storytelling and authenticity make her one of a kind. Her unrivaled ability to connect with audiences makes \u2018CBS This Morning\u2019 relevant, relatable and the place you must start your day,\u201d Zirinsky said in her statement.<\/p>\n

3. She was rumored to be feuding with her This Morning<\/em> co-host, Gayle King.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

When the news broke that O\u2019Donnell was leaving This Morning<\/em>, rumors started swirling that it was because the two women were fighting.\u00a0\u201cThe news should rarely be about us, and sometimes what you read isn\u2019t even true,\u201d King said<\/a> on the Ma6 episode. \u201cIt\u2019s so amazing to me, Norah, that after seven years together, that now people would say that you and I have some beef\u2026 I have no beef with you. You have no beef with me.\u201d<\/p>\n
