As one of his first actions as president of the United States, Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0declassified the records pertaining to the assassinations of late former President John F. Kennedy<\/strong>, Senator Robert F<\/strong>. Kennedy Sr<\/strong>. and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr<\/strong>. After signing several executive orders in the White House, Trump explained when the public can view the declassified documents and the reason behind his decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have determined that the release of all records in the Federal Government\u2019s possession pertaining to each of those assassinations is also in the public interest,\u201d Trump stated in his executive order.<\/p>\n

When Will the JFK Files Be Released?<\/h2>\n

According to Trump\u2019s executive order<\/a>, the declassified JFK files will be released once the director of national intelligence and attorney general \u201cpresent a plan to the president for the full and complete release of records relating to the assassination\u201d of JFK \u201cwithin 15 days of the date of this order.\u201d This means that the plan to release the JFK files should be submitted to Trump by the first week of February 2025.<\/p>\n

When Will the RFK & MLK Files Be Released?<\/h2>\n

Trump\u2019s executive order indicates that the director of national intelligence and the AG will \u201creview records related\u201d to RFK Sr. and MLK Jr.\u2019s assassinations and \u201cpresent a plan to the president for the full and complete release\u201d of the records \u201cwithin 45 days\u201d of the order. Therefore, a plan to unveil these records should be completed by or before the second week of March 2025.<\/p>\n

Why Did Trump Declassify the JFK, RFK & MLK Assassination Records?<\/h2>\n

Trump\u2019s executive order states he \u201cdetermined that the continued redaction and withholding of information from records pertaining to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy is not consistent with the public interest and the release of these records is long overdue.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is in the national interest to finally release all records related to these assassinations without delay,\u201d the White House said.\u00a0\u201cMore than 50 years after the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Federal Government has not released to the public all of its records related to those events. Their families and the American people deserve transparency and truth.\u201d<\/p>\n
