Why Did Michelle Obama Skip Carter\u2019s Funeral?<\/h2>\n

Michelle did not give a reason why she missed Carter\u2019s funeral<\/a> in Washington D.C. However, journalist Jeff Zeleny told CNN that the former First Lady\u00a0had \u201cscheduling conflicts\u201d with the funeral and that she was \u201cstill in Hawaii.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a statement to Politico<\/em><\/a>, a spokesperson for Michelle said, \u201cMrs. Obama sends her thoughts and prayers to the Carter family, and everyone who loved and learned from the remarkable former President.\u201d<\/p>\n

During Carter\u2019s funeral, Michelle\u2019s husband, Barack, was seen chatting with Donald and even smiling a few times while sitting next to the Republican. It\u2019s unclear what they talked about, but Donald told a group of reporters that, based on the live broadcast, he \u201cdidn\u2019t realize how friendly [their interaction] looked.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michelle has not publicly given a reason why she is skipping Trump\u2019s second inauguration. However, a source told PEOPLE<\/em> that there is \u201cno overstating her feelings about\u201d the president-elect.<\/p>\n
