David Lynch<\/strong><\/a> is known as a game-changing auteur in the film industry \u2014 but he was also a proud father. The Eraserhead<\/em> director, who died January 16, 2025<\/a> at the age of 78, welcomed four children during his life \u2014 one for each of his marriages. \u201cI\u2019m not the greatest parent,\u201d he confessed to Vulture<\/em><\/a> in a 2018 interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love all my children and we get along great, but in the early years, before you can have a relationship of talking to them, it\u2019s tough. And I would get divorced<\/a> and stuff \u2014 I\u2019ve got four kids and three divorces. The work is the main thing, and I know I\u2019ve caused suffering because of that. But at the same time I have huge love for the kids.\u201d He further admitted that he had kept his professional and home life separated. \u201cI had different worlds!\u201d he exclaimed. \u201cNowadays parents are involved with every single thing and there\u2019s stay-at-home dads. It seems strange but that\u2019s how things have changed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, he\u2019s had an impact \u2014 one of his daughters went on to become a filmmaker. Below, get to know each of the groundbreaking director\u2019s children.<\/p>\n

Jennifer Lynch<\/h2>\n

Jennifer Chambers Lynch<\/strong>, the Twin Peaks<\/em> director\u2019s first child, was born to David and his first wife Peggy Reavey in 1968, according to Chicago Reader<\/em><\/a>. Along with her parents, a young Jennifer moved from Philadelphia to Los Angeles at just three years old in order for her father to study at the AFI conservatory.<\/p>\n

She certainly took after her famous dad. According to The Independent on Sunday<\/em>, she practiced transcendental meditation \u2014 a practice her father is a known advocate for \u2014 from the age of just six. She worked a production assistant on David\u2019s film Blue Velvet<\/em> in 1986, and made her own directorial debut with 1993\u2019s Boxing Helena<\/em>.<\/p>\n

According to the Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>, she went on to direct Surveillance<\/em> in 2008 and won a historical first \u2014 she was the first woman to receive the Best Director award at the New York City Horror Film Festival. She has also worked in television.<\/p>\n

Austin Jack Lynch Fisk<\/h2>\n

Austin Jack Lynch<\/strong>\u00a0was born in 1977 to David and his second wife\u00a0Mary Fisk<\/strong>. Austin\u2019s parents separated when he was just three in 1985, and they finalized the split with a divorce in 1987. According to PEOPLE<\/em><\/a>, Austin made small appearances in both Inland Empire<\/em> and Twin Peaks<\/em>, and directed Gray House<\/em> back in 2017.<\/p>\n

Riley Sweeney Lynch<\/h2>\n

The Mulholland Drive<\/em> director and Mary Sweeney<\/strong>, his film editor, welcomed their son Riley Sweeney Lynch<\/strong> in 1992. Though Riley\u2019s parents married in May of 2006, they\u2019d file for divorce just one month into the marriage, that June. Riley is a musician and appeared as a featured performer in Twin Peaks: The Return.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

As far as the pressure of being born to two talented filmmakers, Riley once said he wasn\u2019t concerned. \u201cSure, there\u2019s pressure, but my ideas are very much my own, and after I make a few things I think people will start to get that,\u201d he told PAPER Magazine<\/em><\/a> in a 2018 interview. \u201cI just have to keep making.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lula Bogina Lynch<\/h2>\n

David\u2019s youngest child, Lula Bogina Lynch<\/strong>, was born on August 28, 2012, to the director and Inland Empire<\/em> star Emily Stofle<\/strong>. \u201cDirector David Lynch and his wife, Emily, proudly announce the birth of their first child together, Lula Boginia Lynch, who was born on Aug. 28,\u201d his rep told USA Today<\/em>. Lula is now just 13 years old, and according to PEOPLE<\/em>, is named after Wild at Heart<\/em> character Lula Fortune.<\/p>\n

According to InTouch Weekly<\/em><\/a>, Emily\u2019s parents had filed for divorce in 2023 and reached a settlement agreement on December 20, 2024.<\/p>\n
