Kate Middleton<\/b><\/a>\u2019s hospitalization<\/a> quickly became international news earlier this year.\u00a0On January 17, Kensington Palace reassured the public in a statement that her \u201cplanned abdominal surgery\u201d was \u201csuccessful\u201d and not a cause for concern. Shortly after the statement was released, her husband\u00a0Prince William<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>was seen going to visit her<\/a> in the hospital. <\/span>On March 22, however, the Princess of Wales announced that she was diagnosed with cancer. On September 9, Kate confirmed via social media that she had completed treatment and is dedicated to staying \u201ccancer free.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment,\u201d the princess said in her statement. \u201cDoing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Why Did Kate Middleton Undergo Abdominal Surgery?\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

On January 17, 2024, Kensington Palace released an unprecedented statement<\/a>, revealing that the Princess of Wales was hospitalized.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHer Royal Highness was admitted to hospital for planned abdominal surgery,\u201d the palace\u2019s statement read. \u201cThe surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The palace\u2019s statement continued, \u201cThe Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible, and her wish that her personal medical information remains private. Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness\u2019 progress when there is significant new information to share. The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to multiple outlets, Kate\u2019s operation was not cancerous nor life-threatening. It is still unclear why she underwent the \u201cplanned\u201d procedure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shortly after the news of her hospitalization was revealed, photos of William leaving the hospital<\/a> were caught by paparazzi. Sources also revealed that the Prince of Wales has also shifted his schedule around to support his wife and kids, according to a report from\u00a0PEOPLE<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The outlet<\/a> later reported that members close to the royal family were just as surprised as the public was when Kate was admitted to the hospital. While nothing seemed to be wrong with the Princess of Wales in December, those who work with the royals noticed that certain public engagements were left up in the air for her to attend, according to the publication. As for why she and the royals chose to keep her surgery private in comparison to King Charles III<\/strong>\u2018s<\/a> surgery announcement, PEOPLE<\/em><\/a> reported that her choice was in the palace\u2019s statement: to maintain \u201cas much normality\u201d as possible for her children. Charles, however, chose to disclose the news of his operation to the public because it felt \u201csensible\u201d to do so.<\/p>\n

After her surgery, sources also said that Kate was \u201cdoing well\u201d in the\u00a0PEOPLE <\/em>report. Since the royal prefers to keep her personal information private, it appears that \u2014 in the public eye \u2014 she maintains a healthy lifestyle.<\/p>\n

On January 29, 2024, Kensington Palace released a statement to reveal that Kate had returned home to continue her recovery. \u201cShe is making good progress. After William missed his late godfather\u2019s memorial because of a \u201cpersonal matter,\u201d there were concerns it had to do with Kate\u2019s health. However, Kensington Palace clarified that Kate \u201ccontinues to do well\u201d following her surgery in a statement obtained by NBC News<\/a> on February 27.<\/p>\n

Kate\u2019s uncle Gary Goldsmith<\/strong> later weighed in on the princess\u2019 health status. During his appearance on Celebrity Big Brother UK<\/em> on March 6, 2024, Gary responded why his niece has not publicly discussed her operation.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause she doesn\u2019t want to talk about it,\u201d Gary said, before adding, \u201cI spoke to her mum, my sister. She\u2019s getting the best care in the world. All the family has done is put the wagons around and look after family first, before anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n

On March 10, Kate broke her silence in an Instagram statement, thanking her fans for their well wishes.<\/p>\n

Following several weeks of her noticeable absence, Kate announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer<\/a> in a video message.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful,\u201d she pointed out before adding, \u201cHowever, tests after theoperation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n
