The Golden Globe Awards <\/a>on January 5, 2025, had plenty of big surprises, and a few not-so-surprising wins. Among the evening\u2019s \u201cwow\u201d moments was the winner for best actress in a motion picture \u2014 drama. In fact, six-time best actress Golden Globe winner Nicole Kidman<\/strong> <\/a>was among the nominees, and host Nikki Glaser<\/strong><\/a> took the opportunity for some playful jabs aimed at the Hollywood icon.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is your 20th Golden Globe nomination<\/a>,\u201d she gushed, as Kidman sat in the audience. \u201cI mean incredible. Thank you so much for all of your hard work. Thank you. Thank you for working so hard. And thank you to Keith Urban<\/strong><\/a> for playing guitar around the house so much that she wants to leave and make 18 movies a year. Keep strumming, you kooky koala.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also directed a quip at double-nominee Selena Gomez<\/strong><\/a>. \u201cSelena Gomez is here \u2014 double nominee tonight for Emilia P\u00e9rez <\/em><\/a>and Only Murders<\/em>, and she\u2019s here tonight with her new fianc\u00e9, Benny Blanco<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d Glaser said. \u201cAnd Benny Blanco is here because of the genie who granted him that wish.\u201d<\/p>\n

Best actress in a musical or comedy motion picture went to Demi Moore<\/strong><\/a>, in one of the evening\u2019s most memorable moments. \u201cI\u2019m just in shock right now,\u201d she said during her emotional acceptance speech. \u201cI\u2019ve been doing this a long time, like over 45 years, and this is the first time I\u2019ve ever won anything as an actor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Best supporting actress in any motion picture went to Zoe Saldana<\/strong> for Emilia Perez<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Wicked<\/em><\/a> was nominated in four high-profile categories \u2013 best performance by an actress in a supporting role (Ariana Grande<\/strong><\/a>,) best performance by an actress in a motion picture, musical or comedy (Cynthia Erivo<\/strong>,) cinematic box office achievement, and best motion picture \u2013 musical or comedy. The uber-hyped movie only wound up with one award, for cinematic box office achievement.<\/p>\n

The award for best motion picture \u2014 non English language went to Emilia Perez<\/em>. Best motion picture \u2014 animated went to Flow<\/em>, while best motion picture \u2014 drama went to The Brutalist<\/em><\/a>. Finally, best motion picture \u2014 musical or comedy also went to Emilia Perez<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n
