And the view from within a glacial tunnel.<\/p>\n<p>These four beautiful and moving images come from a new book, <a href=\"https:\/\/papadakis.net\/books\/our-frozen-planet\/\"><i>Our Frozen Planet<\/i><\/a> by Michael Hambrey and J\u00fcrg Alean. It sets out to celebrate the cryosphere \u2013 the collective noun that describes the world\u2019s ice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/2448831-plan-to-refreeze-arctic-sea-ice-shows-promise-in-first-tests\/\">in all its forms<\/a>, from glaciers and ice sheets to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/2458932-melting-permafrost-makes-drunken-forests-store-less-carbon\/\">permafrost<\/a> and snow cover.<\/p>\n<p>The main image shows ice that has formed around a waterfall near Giswil, Switzerland.
