Rey Misterio Sr<\/strong><\/a>. (real name: Miguel \u00c1ngel L\u00f3pez D\u00edaz) died in December 2024, his family confirmed as well as the Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. Best known as the uncle of the WWE\u2019s Rey Mysterio<\/strong>, the retired athlete helped his entire family build a legacy in the wrestling world.<\/p>\n \u201cWe regret the sensitive death of Miguel \u00c1ngel L\u00f3pez D\u00edas, known as Rey Mysterio Sr. [sic]\u201d the AAA\u2019s statement read in Spanish, which was translated to English. \u201cWe send our most sincere condolences to his loved ones and raise our prayers to heaven for his eternal rest.\u201d<\/p>\n Misterio Sr.\u2019s cause of death is unclear. The wrestling world and countless fans paid tribute to honor Misterio Sr.\u2019s contributions to the industry. Aside from being an influential figure to his family, the late wrestler was also a legend to fellow wrestlers. During his time in the ring, he went by names such as \u201cBullrider\u201d and \u201cRey Misterio\u201d before adding the \u201cSr.\u201d part to distinguish himself from his nephew.<\/p>\n Misterio Sr. wrestled from the 1970s until 2009 when he retired.
