New York City Mayor Eric Adams<\/strong> <\/a>might be pardoned by Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a>. The president-elect recently confirmed he\u2019d \u201ccertainly look\u201d into the charges against Adams after he was indicted earlier this year. Since presidential pardons<\/a> have made headlines<\/a> in recent weeks, find out whether Adams could have his charges dismissed.<\/p>\n

What Did Eric Adams Do?<\/h2>\n

In September 2024, Mayor Adams was indicted<\/a> on bribery charges. According to the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office, Attorney Damian Williams<\/strong> said, \u201cAs alleged, Mayor Adams abused his position as this City\u2019s highest elected official, and before that as Brooklyn Borough President, to take bribes and solicit illegal campaign contributions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams added, \u201cBy allegedly taking improper and illegal benefits from foreign nationals \u2014 including to allow a Manhattan skyscraper to open without a fire inspection \u2014 Adams put the interests of his benefactors, including a foreign official, above those of his constituents. This Office and our partners at the FBI and DOI will continue to pursue corruption anywhere in this City, especially when that corruption takes the form of illegal foreign influence on our democratic system.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Adams vehemently denied the charges against him, calling them \u201centirely false\u201d in a public statement. He also vowed to fight the charges in court.<\/p>\n

Is Eric Adams a Democrat or a Republican?<\/h2>\n

Adams is a Democrat. He had been registered with the party before 1995. From 1995 to 2002, he was a registered Republican, according to multiple outlets<\/a>. Since 2002, though, Adams has been a Democrat.<\/p>\n

In December 2024, Trump was asked whether he\u2019d consider pardoning Adams. In response, the Republican said he\u2019d consider it after he learns the facts of the case against the Democrat.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that he was treated pretty unfairly,\u201d Trump said about Adams. \u201cIt\u2019s very interesting when he essentially went against what was happening with the migrants coming in. And, you know, he made some pretty strong statements like \u2018This is not sustainable.\u2019 I said, \u2018You know what? He\u2019ll be indicted soon.\u2019 And I said it. That is a prediction, a little bit lightheartedly, but I said it. I said, \u2018He\u2019s going to be indicted.\u2019 And a few months later he got indicted. So, I would certainly look at it.\u201d<\/p>\n
