De\u2019Vondre Campbell<\/strong> let his teammates down, and one of them even claimed he\u2019d be \u201ccut\u201d soon. During a December 12, 2024, game against the Los Angeles Rams<\/a>, the San Francisco 49ers<\/a> linebacker refused to play. When he was called up to relieve injured players, Campbell declined, and the 49ers lost 12-6 against the Rams. While most of the players didn\u2019t comment on Campbell\u2019s actions that night, tight end George Kittle<\/strong> couldn\u2019t help himself.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m a leader on the team, and if that is something that is being a distraction on the sideline, I would\u2019ve loved to voice my own opinion in the moment. And we\u2019re past that moment,\u201d Kittle told reporters, per ESPN<\/a>. \u201cSo, it doesn\u2019t matter what I wish I could have said or wish I could have done, but I don\u2019t like distractions on the sideline. I think that\u2019s ignorant. And I think it\u2019s just dumb. It\u2019s just stupid, and it\u2019s very immature.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s unclear what happened on the sidelines that caused Campbell to stroll off the field, but Kittle emphasized that the linebacker\u2019s decision was \u201cselfish.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI just don\u2019t see how you could do something like that to your team,\u201d Kittle said. \u201cIt\u2019s one person making a selfish decision. I\u2019ve never been around anybody that\u2019s ever done that, and I hope I\u2019m never around anybody who does that again.\u201d<\/p>\n Campbell has not publicly commented on his controversial behavior during the 49ers vs. Rams game.<\/p>\n While speaking to the media after the defeat, cornerback Charvarius Ward<\/strong> didn\u2019t hold back from sharing his thoughts. He pointed out that Campbell is \u201ca professional\u201d and has \u201cbeen playing for a long time,\u201d so he \u201cshouldn\u2019t have dressed\u201d to play the game in the first place, according to ESPN<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cHe could have told them that before the game,\u201d Ward said, before adding, \u201cI feel like that was some sucka s**t that he did. It definitely hurt the team.\u201d<\/p>\n After acknowledging Dee Winters<\/strong>\u2018 injury, Ward said they \u201cneeded a linebacker,\u201d adding, \u201cSo, for [Campbell] to do that, that\u2019s some sucka stuff to me, in my opinion. He\u2019s probably going to get cut soon, so it is what it is with that.\u201d<\/p>\n Neither the NFL nor the 49ers has confirmed or denied if Campbell is getting fired. When Coach Shanahan was asked if Campbell was being released, he responded, \u201cWe\u2019ll figure out something.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s somebody who doesn\u2019t want to play football.
