The Arctic tundra now emits more carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases than it absorbs. Rising temperatures due to climate change have shifted the ecosystem\u2019s effect on the planet \u2013 it has moved from helping to cool Earth to having a warming effect.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a really serious change,\u201d says Twila Moon<\/a> at the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Colorado. \u201cHuman-caused warming is now causing warming from nature. It is irreversible on a thousands-of-years timescale.\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
