Luigi Mangione<\/strong><\/a>, the person of interest<\/a> in the shooting of UnitedHealthcare<\/a> CEO Brian Thompson<\/strong><\/a>, reportedly comes from a wealthy family. Mangione was taken into custody by police in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on December 9, 2024, five days after Thompson<\/a> was shot from behind in New York City.<\/p>\n

During a press conference that day, the New York Police Department revealed that a tipster called authorities after seeing Mangione at McDonald\u2019s, realizing that he matched the description of the suspected shooter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a strong person of interest,\u201d New York City Mayor Eric Adams<\/strong> said, per CBS News. \u201cHe matches the description of the identification we\u2019ve been looking for. He\u2019s also in possession of several items that we believe will connect him to this incident.\u201d<\/p>\n

The items found in Mangione\u2019s possession were a gun and fake IDs.<\/p>\n

Who Is Luigi Mangione?<\/h2>\n

Mangione is an Ivy League-educated student. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in engineering, computer and information science, according to his LinkedIn<\/a>. Previously, he went to the private all-boys\u2019 Gilman School<\/a> in Maryland.<\/p>\n

Who Are Luigi Mangione\u2019s Parents?<\/h2>\n

The names of Mangione\u2019s parents are unclear. However, multiple outlets including Los Angeles Magazine<\/em> reported that they own the Turf Valley Resort and Hayfields Country Club.<\/p>\n

According to Hayfields Country Club\u2019s website<\/a>, the venue is a \u201cfamily-owned, private country club overlooking the spectacular views of Oregon Ridge\u201d in Hunt Valley, Maryland. The club offers members \u201cexclusive access to an elite golf course, practice facilities, recreational activities and casual dining\u201d in addition to \u201can active lifestyle.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Turf Valley Resort is located in Ellicott City, Maryland, and boasts a whopping 1,000-acre property for guests, per the resort\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Who Else Is in Mangione\u2019s Family?<\/h2>\n

According to Daily Mail<\/a>,<\/em> Mangione is the younger cousin of Maryland State Delegate Antonio \u201cNino\u201d Mangione<\/strong>. The delegate has been in office since 2019 and is a member of the Republican Party.<\/p>\n

Antonio has not publicly commented on his younger cousin\u2019s arrest nor his possible connection to the murder of Thompson.<\/p>\n

Where Is the Mangione Family From?<\/h2>\n

It appears the Mangione family is from Maryland, but Luigi was living in Hawaii up until his arrest, according to his LinkedIn<\/a> page.<\/p>\n
