Elton John<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>revealed a heartbreaking health issue<\/a> that he lives with now. The musician \u2014 who is widely considered to be one of the most influential artists \u2014 has lost his eyesight. The \u201cTiny Dancer\u201d hitmaker broke the news on a few occasions in late 2024, shocking fans around the world. The \u201cRocket Man\u201d artist revealed that he completely lost his eyesight while speaking on stage during the West End gala Devil Wears Prada: The Musical<\/em> performance in December 2024. He wrote the music for the production.<\/p>\n \u201cAs some of you may know, I have had issues and now, I have lost my sight,\u201d Elton said, according to several outlets.<\/a>\u00a0\u201cI haven\u2019t been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed it.\u201d He then thanked his husband, David Furnish<\/strong><\/a>, calling David his \u201crock\u201d because Elton hasn\u2019t \u201cbeen able to come to many of the previews\u201d of the musical.<\/p>\n One week prior, Elton discussed his vision issues during an interview on ABC News.<\/p>\n \u201cI unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France,\u201d Elton said during his November 2024 interview<\/a>. \u201cAnd it\u2019s been four months now since I haven\u2019t been able to see. And my left eye is not the greatest. So, there\u2019s hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but I\u2019m kind of stuck at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n Elton did not explain what infection he caught nor how it led to his eyesight problems.<\/p>\n Infections that could potentially lead to blindness or partial vision loss include various bacterial, fungal, viral and parasitic pathogens, according to the National Library of Medicine<\/a>.<\/p>\n In September 2024, Elton announced he had caught an unknown \u201csevere eye infection\u201d that left him with \u201climited vision.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cOver the summer, I\u2019ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,\u201d Elton shared via Instagram at the time. \u201cI am healing, but it\u2019s an extremely slow process, and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.\u201d<\/p>\n The award-winning musician thanked his doctors for their assistance and added that he was \u201cfeeling positive about the progress [he had] made in [his] healing and recovery thus far.\u201d<\/p>\n However, two months later, Elton said he still couldn\u2019t \u201csee anything\u201d during his November 2024 ABC News appearance.<\/p>\n \u201cI can\u2019t read anything, I can\u2019t watch anything,\u201d Elton said and added,\u00a0\u201cWe\u2019re taking an initiative to try and get it better, but at the moment, that\u2019s really what we\u2019re concentrating on.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s unclear if Elton will regain his eyesight.<\/p>\n \n\t\t<\/div>\nDoes Elton John Have an Illness?<\/h2>\n
