Elton John<\/strong><\/a> is still standing despite living with a newly revealed health issue<\/a>. The legendary British musician, singer and performer broke fans\u2019 hearts by unveiling his eyesight problem \u2014 which was apparently caused by an infection.<\/p>\n

While attending the Devil Wears Prada: The Musical<\/em> West End gala event in December 2024, Elton spoke to the audience and explained why he wasn\u2019t able to see the performance, for which he wrote the lyrics.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs some of you may know, I have had issues and now, I have lost my sight,\u201d Elton said, according to multiple outlets.<\/a>\u00a0\u201cI haven\u2019t been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed it.\u201d He then thanked his husband, David Furnish<\/strong><\/a>, \u201cwho\u2019s been my rock because I haven\u2019t been able to come to many of the previews.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elton John\u2019s Illness<\/h2>\n

Elton has not revealed a chronic health condition that led to his loss of sight. However, he recently told ABC News\u2019 Robin Roberts<\/strong> that he had contracted an infection in France, which directly impacted his eyesight. The \u201cTiny Dancer\u201d singer did not specify what the infection was.<\/p>\n

\u201cI unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France,\u201d Elton said during his November 2024 interview<\/a>. \u201cAnd it\u2019s been four months now since I haven\u2019t been able to see. And my left eye is not the greatest. So, there\u2019s hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but I\u2019m kind of stuck at the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

While he \u201ccan do something like this [interview],\u201d Elton said that \u201cgoing into the studio and recording\u201d has proven to be difficult because he \u201ccan\u2019t see a lyric for a start.\u201d<\/p>\n

Overall, Elton is in good health, but his loss of sight has affected various parts of his day.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re taking an initiative to try and get it better, but at the moment, that\u2019s really what we\u2019re concentrating on,\u201d Elton added during his ABC interview, while revealing that he can\u2019t \u201csee anything\u201d and, \u201cI can\u2019t read anything, I can\u2019t watch anything.\u201d<\/p>\n
