Eberflus has not been fired by the Bears at the time of publication. However, speculation in the sports world has been swirling since the team\u2019s loss against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n

Former Bears coach Dave Wannstedt weighed in about the team\u2019s loss while speaking with NBC Chicago<\/a>, and he emphasized that the players\u2019 responses to a coach can determine their overall success.<\/p>\n

\u201cCoaches can lose games, but you can never lose the locker room. If you lose the locker room, you\u2019re done, OK?\u201d Wannstedt told the outlet. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t like what I\u2019m hearing from the players afterwards. I don\u2019t like the vibe. To me, if I\u2019m George McCaskey, that\u2019s what I\u2019m looking at. We\u2019ve had some blunders and there\u2019s a thousand reasons why \u2026 Where\u2019s my football team at? Do they still believe? That\u2019s the key when you get in this situation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Eberflus is facing major backlash from football fans for not calling a timeout in the final seconds of the game. He, instead, let the clock run out. This resulted in the Lions\u2019 win, even though the Bears had a fighting chance.<\/p>\n

He Worked for Several Other NFL Teams<\/h2>\n

Before he became the Bears\u2019 head coach, Eberflus served as the linebacker coach for the Cleveland Browns from 2009 to 2010. The following year, he worked for the Dallas Cowboys\u2019 coaching staff until 2017. From 2018 to 2021, he served as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts.<\/p>\n

Matt Was a Football Player in College<\/h2>\n

Eberflus was a football player while attending the University of Toledo, eventually becoming a team captain. Afterward, Eberflus worked as a student assistance coach, then a graduate assistant. He was later inducted into the university\u2019s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.<\/p>\n
