Users of the popular email application noticed it was down in the morning, and the company has not provided an update on when it will be restored yet. This isn\u2019t the first time that Microsoft suffered from a widespread outage; a similar incident happened just two months prior.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-3\">Get all the updates on Outlook\u2019s issues today, below.<\/p>\n<h2>Why Is Outlook Down Today?<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-4\">Microsoft has not provided an explanation behind Outlook\u2019s apparent outage. However, Outlook\u2019s official X account replied to customers via social media with updates. In response to one user, Outlook <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Outlook\/status\/1861081879102791821\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\">tweeted<\/a>, \u201cHello, we\u2019ve started to deploy a fix which is currently progressing through the affected environment. While this progresses, we\u2019re beginning manual restarts on a subset of machines that are in an unhealthy state.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Hello, we&#8217;ve started to deploy a fix which is currently progressing through the affected environment. While this progresses, we\u2019re beginning manual restarts on a subset of machines that are in an unhealthy state. For more information, please refer to MO941162 in the admin center.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-5\">\u2014 Microsoft Outlook (@Outlook) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Outlook\/status\/1861081879102791821?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\">November 25, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-7\">As a result of the outage, Outlook users were met with a \u201cservice unavailable\u201d banner whenever they tried to refresh their email accounts.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-8\">In response to another X user, Outlook <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Outlook\/status\/1861083633945059815\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\">tweeted<\/a> that \u201cthe fix has reached approximately 90 percent of the affected environments and our targeted restarts continue to progress.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>What Happened With Microsoft 365 in September 2024?<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-9\">On September 12, Excel, Teams, Outlook and Word users all went down for more than 20,000 users, who complained about the outage at around 8 a.m. ET, per Downdetector.\u00a0The issue came two months after the infamous CrowdStrike situation, which resulted from a faulty software update.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-10\">\u201cWe\u2019re investigating an issue where users may be unable to access multiple Microsoft 365 services,\u201d the company wrote via X (previously known as Twitter). \u201cPlease look for MO888473 in the admin center for more details and further updates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-11\">Microsoft took to X throughout the morning to provide updates to all users. In one tweet, the company explained why the outage had taken place.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-12\">\u201cWe\u2019ve confirmed that a change within a third-party ISP\u2019s managed-environment resulted in impact,\u201d one update read via X. \u201cThe ISP has reverted the change and we\u2019re now seeing signs of recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Did Microsoft Outlook Shut Down in September?<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-13\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/tech\/2024\/09\/12\/is-microsoft-365-down-what-to-know-about-the-outage\/75188484007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\"><em>USA Today<\/em><\/a>, Microsoft Outlook experienced the most outages. The publication noted that 75 percent of the outage reports were about the Outlook email app, while 17 percent of the reports involved server connections.<\/p>\n<h2>Was Microsoft Restored in September?<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-14\">Later that day, Microsoft updated its users that they \u201cexperienced a brief disruption connecting to some Microsoft services on our network\u201d and that \u201cthe issue has been resolved and connections are operating normally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-15\">\u201cWe\u2019ve monitored our systems and confirmed that impact has been remediated,\u201d the company tweeted in a separate post at about 11 a.m. ET.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-16\">Amid the chaotic outage, Microsoft also experienced a setback in employment.
