Wicked<\/em><\/a>\u00a0is finally making its way to the big screen, more than 10 years after it was first announced.<\/p>\n The movie, centered around Glinda (played by Ariana Grande<\/strong><\/a>) and Elphaba (played by Cynthia Erivo<\/strong><\/a>), is based on the Tony Award-winning Broadway show<\/a>, which serves as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz<\/em><\/a>. Erivo has previously teased that the films will be even more spectacular than the musical itself. \u201cI think it\u2019s going to be unlike anything you\u2019ve ever seen before,\u201d she told\u00a0Entertainment Tonight<\/em><\/a> at the 2022 SAG Awards\u2014the same year it was revealed that Universal\u2019s adaptation would be split into two movies rather than one.<\/p>\n \u201cI think we\u2019re going to enjoy the magic of it. We\u2019re going to try and put our own spin on what we know already and show you a story about two women [who] are sisters,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s everything you need to know about the movie\u2019s production budget and when the second part will follow this year\u2019s release.<\/p>\n The film reportedly had a $150 million budget, according to Variety<\/em>, with the second half of the two-part movie\u2014costing an additional $150 million\u2014set to arrive in 2025.<\/p>\n According to Showbiz Galore<\/em>, the pop star and Grammy winner has reportedly received $15 million for her paycheck, while her co-star Erivo, also a Grammy winner, is believed to have received around $1 million.<\/p>\n The following songs are featured in the movie, many of which have been extended from their versions in the hit stage musical. All tracks are written by Stephen Schwartz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Wicked<\/em> Part 2 is set to be released on November 21, 2025, about a year after Part 1\u2019s release.<\/p>\n Universal Pictures originally scheduled the film for November 26, 2025, but moved the date up to avoid competition with Disney\u2019s Zootopia 2<\/em>, which is set to hit theaters on the same day.<\/p>\n The release date was also shifted from December to align with the Thanksgiving holiday, creating a new tradition for audiences to head to the theater around this time.
