Alex Jones<\/strong>, the ultra-conservative radio show host and known conspiracy theorist, was ordered to pay more than $1 billion to the families of eight victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook shootings for the damage he caused them by perpetuating a lie that the massacre was a hoax. The decision by the Connecticut court, which came on October 12, 2022, follows the $45 million in punitive damages Jones was ordered to pay another victim\u2019s family by a Texas court two months prior. Although Jones\u2019 lawyer said they\u2019d appeal the verdicts, he eventually lost his platform, \u201cInfoWars,\u201d to The Onion<\/em><\/a> in a bankruptcy auction.<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more about Jones, below.<\/p>\n He founded the website in 1999. It\u2019s devoted to Alex\u2019s rants, his radio show, and more often than not, his extreme conspiracy news. That\u00a0 includes his loud and long claims that the 2012 Sandy Hook school massacre that left 20 children dead was a hoax. He alleged that the 1995 deadly Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing was government-manufactured terrorism, and that the 9\/11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington D.C. were caused by the George W. Bush<\/strong> Administration. \u201cI\u2019ll tell you the bottom line,\u201d he said at the time, \u201c98 percent chance this was a government-orchestrated controlled bombing.\u201d<\/p>\n Alex\u2019s vitriolic speech has got him banned from Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and more.\u00a0 On Sept. 6, 2018, Twitter announced, \u201cToday, we permanently suspended @<\/span>realalexjones<\/span> and @<\/span>infowars<\/span> from Twitter and Periscope. We took this action based on new reports of Tweets and videos posted yesterday that violate our abusive behavior policy, in addition to the accounts\u2019 past violations.\u201d When Facebook announced in 2019 that Alex was banned, along with other extreme conservatives including Milo Yiannopoulos<\/strong> and Laura Loomer<\/strong>, the company said in a statement: \u201cWe\u2019ve always banned individuals or organizations that promote or engage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology. The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and it is what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today.\u201d<\/p>\n In 2010 he claimed the Pentagon had\u00a0 developed a \u201cgay bomb.\u201d \u201cThe reason there\u2019s so many gay people now is because it\u2019s a chemical warfare operation, and I have the government documents where they said they\u2019re going to encourage homosexuality with chemicals so that people don\u2019t have children,\u201d he said in a 2010 broadcast per NBC News<\/a>.<\/em> In 2017 he declared that \u201cThe majority of frogs in most areas of the United States are now gay,\u201d though he had no evidence to back it up. He also said that the 2016 Pulse nightclub massacre in Orlando, FL was the LGBTQ community\u2019s fault. In 2018 he asserted that the Pentagon had created \u201cweaponized perfumes<\/a>\u201d that \u201cwill make men attracted to other men, and they want you to do that so you don\u2019t have kids.\u201d He has had other anti-LGBTQ speech that helped get him banned from social media platforms.<\/p>\n In 2014 he posted a video<\/a> to InfoWars asking \u201cIs Michelle Obama a man?\u201d He then called Michelle the transgender slur \u201ctranny.\u201d And it didn\u2019t stop after she left the White House. In 2017, he ranted that \u201cSince the early days of the Obama administration, citizens across the board have studied videos and photos of Michelle Obama and said that she is a man. But new shock footage has emerged that is being censored off the internet as fast as you can upload it.\u201d He then showed photos and videos of pleats in her pants and skirts and outrageously claimed that he saw a large \u201cpenis\u201d outline.<\/p>\n Alex has been a big supporter of Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a>, telling his listener\u2019s that the real estate mogul was basically a godsend here to save the White House. During a 2015 interview on his show, Trump returned the favor, telling Jones, \u201cYour reputation is amazing. I will not let you down,\u201d per The Washington Post<\/em><\/a>. However, it\u2019s unclear where their alliance stands after Jones\u2019 court case against the Sandy Hook families.<\/p>\n In December 2021, Tucker Carlson<\/strong> called Jones \u201cone of the most popular journalists\u201d on his Fox News Show. \u201c[He\u2019s] a better journalist than say, NBC News\u2019s security correspondent Ken Dilanian<\/strong> or Margaret Brennan<\/strong> of CBS,\u201d Tucker added.<\/p>\n Joe Rogan<\/strong>\u00a0defended Jones in the past, saying \u201cWhat is he doing that\u2019s so awful? It\u2019s entertaining!\u201d according to The Washington Post<\/em>.
