Vice President Kamala Harris<\/strong><\/a> has formally conceded<\/a> the 2024 presidential election. The 60-year-old former Democratic candidate appeared<\/a> on stage to address supporters and the nation from Washington D.C. on Wednesday, November 6. At the beginning of her concession speech, Harris noted she personally called president-elect Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a> to congratulate him on his second election.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, let me say \u2026 my heart is full today,\u201d the former prosecutor began. \u201cFull of gratitude with the trust you have placed in me, full of love for our country and full of resolve. The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, now what we voted for, but here me when I say: the light of America\u2019s promise will always burn bright. As long as we never give up, and as long as we keep fighting.\u201d<\/p>\n

After thanking her husband, Doug Emhoff<\/strong><\/a>, their family and President Joe Biden<\/strong><\/a> and Jill Biden<\/strong>, Harris noted, \u201cWe must accept the results of this election.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEarlier today, I spoke with president-elect Donald Trump and congratulated him on his victory,\u201d Harris revealed, before adding, \u201cWe will engage in a peaceful transfer of power.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harris went on to urge her supporters to never \u201cgive up\u201d despite the loss in this election.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign,\u201d she noted. \u201cThe fight for freedom, for opportunity, for fairness and the dignity of all people; a fight for the ideals at the heart of our nation, the ideals that reflect America at our best. That is a fight I will never give up.\u201d<\/p>\n

She then told younger voters that everything will \u201cbe okay\u201d and that \u201csometimes, the fight takes a while.\u201d<\/p>\n
