Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a> isn\u2019t letting go of President Joe Biden<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s \u201cgarbage\u201d comment<\/a>. On Wednesday, October 30, the 78-year-old Republican candidate held a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and instead of starting the event from the stage, Trump talked to supporters and the media from a white garbage truck.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do you like my garbage truck?\u201d Trump said, according to the Associated Press<\/a>. \u201cThis is in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden.\u201d Trump then insisted that he \u201cloves Puerto Rico\u201d and that \u201cPuerto Rico loves [him].\u201d He concluded the staged drive-in by telling reporters, \u201cI hope you enjoyed this garbage truck. Thank you very much.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Biden, 81, appeared on a call with the advocacy group Voto Latino. In it, he referred to the comedian Tony Hinchcliffe<\/strong><\/a>, who called Puerto Rico a \u201cfloating island of garbage\u201d during Trump\u2019s rally at New York City\u2019s Madison Square Garden. Hinchcliffe, 40, made additional racist comments about Latinos, claiming that they \u201clove making babies.\u201d<\/p>\n

While recalling Hinchcliffe\u2019s derogatory comments, Biden said, \u201cJust the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage. Well, let me tell you something, I don\u2019t \u2014 I don\u2019t know the Puerto Rican that I know, the Puerto Rico where I\u2019m fr \u2014 in my home state of Delaware. They\u2019re good, decent honorable people.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president added that the \u201conly garbage [he sees] floating out there is his supporters,\u201d referring to Trump\u2019s fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it\u2019s un-American,\u201d Biden concluded. \u201cIt\u2019s totally contrary to everything we\u2019ve done, everything we\u2019ve been.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a follow-up message, Biden took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify his statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cEarlier today, I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump\u2019s supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage \u2014 which is the only word I can think of to describe it,\u201d Biden tweeted. \u201cHis demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That\u2019s all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don\u2019t reflect who we are as a nation.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response to the president\u2019s comment, Vice President Kamala Harris<\/strong><\/a> emphasized that she doesn\u2019t exclude people based on their political party affiliation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been very clear with the American public, I respect the challenges that people face,\u201d she told reporters earlier this week. \u201cI am serious, what I mean when elected president, I will represent all Americans, including folks who don\u2019t vote for me and address their needs and their desires.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Trump\u2019s part, the Republican was asked for his reaction to Hinchcliffe\u2019s controversial remarks.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know anything about the comedian,\u201d Trump insisted, according to the AP. \u201cI don\u2019t know who he is. I\u2019ve never seen him. I heard he made a statement, but it was a statement that he made. He\u2019s a comedian, what can I tell you. I know nothing about him.\u201d<\/p>\n
