Eight months before brothers Erik Menendez<\/strong><\/a> and Lyle Menendez<\/strong><\/a> shot and killed their parents<\/a>, Jos\u00e9<\/strong> and Mary Louise \u201cKitty\u201d Menendez<\/strong><\/a>, in August 1989, Erik wrote a letter to his late cousin, Andy Cano<\/strong>. The Menendez siblings and family previously revealed that they had revealed the letter\u2019s existence. However, the Los Angeles District Attorney<\/a> unveiled the contents of the letter on October 16, 2024.<\/p>\n

Per Fox News<\/a>, captions along with the contents of the letter acknowledged that DA George\u00a0Gasc\u00f3n \u201csays it is his moral and ethical obligation to review the Menendez brothers\u2019 case.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been 35 years since their sentencing,\u201d the caption read, according to the outlet. \u201cIt is time to decide whether these men have paid their dues to society. Erik and Lyle Menendez have spent most of their lives behind bars and will continue to unless we can ensure George Gasc\u00f3n can review and restore justice for all.\u201d<\/p>\n

What Did the Menendez Brothers Do?<\/h2>\n

Erik and Lyle killed their parents in August 1989 because they were allegedly subjected to emotional, physical and sexual abuse throughout their childhoods.<\/p>\n

Menendez Brothers\u2019 New Evidence in Case<\/h2>\n

In addition to a letter written by Erik to his cousin, another piece of evidence<\/a> against Jos\u00e9 has emerged in recent years. Roy Rossell\u00f3<\/strong>, a former member of the Puerto Rican band Menudo, claimed that he was sexually assaulted as a teenager by Jos\u00e9. In the 2023 Peacock docuseries Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed<\/em>, Roy claimed that he was drugged and raped by the Menendez patriarch.<\/p>\n

During Menudo\u2019s rise to fame, Jos\u00e9 was an executive at RCA Records.<\/p>\n

What Did Erik Menendez Write in a Letter to His Cousin?<\/h2>\n

According to multiple outlets, Erik wrote to his cousin, \u201cI\u2019ve been trying to avoid dad.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0still happening Andy but <\/span>it\u2019s\u00a0worse for me now,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI never know when <\/span>it\u2019s\u00a0going to happen and <\/span>it\u2019s driving me crazy. Every night I stay up thinking he might come in [sic].\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Erik\u2019s letter to Andy was reportedly found by his aunt nine years ago. Andy died in 2003.<\/p>\n

In light of the new evidence in the Menendez brothers\u2019 case, Lyle and Erik received a new court hearing, which is scheduled to take place on November 29, 2024.<\/p>\n
