One of the most famous names from Lyle<\/strong><\/a> and Erik Menendez<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s trial was defense attorney Leslie Abramson<\/strong><\/a>. After one jury remained deadlocked in their first trial, another one<\/a> was held, and the brothers were convicted<\/a> of first-degree murder of their parents, Jos\u00e9<\/strong> and Mary Louise \u201cKitty\u201d Menendez<\/strong><\/a>, and the conspiracy to commit murder in 1996. So, did Lyle and Erik stay in touch with Leslie<\/a>?<\/p>\n Find out whether or not Leslie is still in contact with the Menendez brothers.<\/p>\n Leslie is a former lawyer<\/a> from Queens, New York. She moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s and graduated with a law degree from UCLA, according to The Washington Post<\/em><\/a>. The mother of two spoke with the publication following Lyle and Erik\u2019s 1996 conviction, and she mentioned taking a \u201cbreather\u201d from highly publicized trials.<\/p>\n \u201cThis case was incredibly stressful the first time around, and was monstrous the second time,\u201d Leslie said. \u201cCertainly, this will be my last capital case for a while. I need a breather from this. But by the same token, I\u2019m not ready to do nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n When it came to the Menendez brothers\u2019 crime, Leslie noted that they were \u201ctroubled\u201d kids and ultimately \u201ccracked\u201d after allegedly facing emotional, physical and sexual abuse during their childhoods.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve represented people charged with murder for 27 years, and these guys just don\u2019t measure up to anybody else I\u2019ve ever represented,\u201d Leslie said before insisting, \u201cThese are not murderers. These are troubled kids in a very difficult and grotesque home environment, and they cracked. \u2026\u00a0It\u2019s a grotesquely disproportionate verdict and punishment for what happened here. When children kill their parents, something is wrong in that family. It\u2019s a different moral mix for a sexual predator, those who kill strangers.\u201d<\/p>\n It does not appear that Leslie stayed in touch with either Lyle or Erik following their 1996 conviction. The siblings were sent to separate prisons at the time, but they reunited in 2018. Since then, they have been incarcerated<\/a> at San Diego\u2019s Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility.<\/p>\n Following the Menendez brothers\u2019 trial, Leslie represented producer Phil Spector<\/strong>. He was charged with second-degree murder in Lana Clarkson<\/strong>\u2018s 2003 death. Leslie eventually resigned from the case, and Phil was convicted of second-degree murder in 2009. Since then, Leslie has remained out of the public eye.<\/p>\n In Netflix\u2019s October 2024 documentary The Menendez Brothers<\/em>, Leslie declined an interview. However, she provided<\/a> a statement to the doc, which read, \u201c30 years is a long time. I\u2019d like to leave the past in the past. No amount of media, nor teenage petitions will alter the fate of these clients. Only the court can do that, and they have ruled.\u201d<\/p>\n Leslie has two children.
