HBO fans can rejoice as Reese Witherspoon<\/b><\/a>\u00a0unveils more details about the return to Monterey.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Nearly a year after co-star Nicole Kidman<\/b><\/a>\u00a0revealed that Season 3 of Big Little Lies<\/em> was in the works, the Legally Blonde <\/em>alum provided a brief update on the show\u2019s progress, including new material from the novel\u2019s author, Liane Moriarty<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cNicole and I have been waiting,\u201d Witherspoon, 48, told E! News<\/em>\u00a0at the\u00a0Hello Sunshine<\/em> red carpet Oct. 5. \u201cWe\u2019re in waiting for Liane Moriarty. She\u2019s going to be turning in something very soon. We\u2019re back to the original author and we\u2019re going to go back to the original characters.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s exciting, too, because I think the kids are probably a little older now,\u201d she continued. \u201cSo that might add another element. I don\u2019t know yet; I haven\u2019t read it.\u201d<\/p>\n Here\u2019s a look at everything we know so far.<\/p>\n In November 2023, during a Q&A at a Ladies Professional Golf Association event, Kidman noted that she \u201cloved\u201d working on the acclaimed HBO series and confirmed that she was actively working on Season 3.<\/p>\n \u201cI loved Big Little Lies <\/i>because it sort of came along at a time in my life when I had my children, and I was thinking I was going to retire,\u201d the Undoing<\/i> alum said. \u201cAnd then, this situation came along, where Reese Witherspoon and I were able to produce that show and create that show. And then all of you watched it and made it a massive success. And we will be bringing you a third one, just FYI.\u201d<\/p>\n The only issue was that fans weren\u2019t sure if Kidman was implying that the entire cast had already begun filming. Other cast members\u2014Shailene Woodley<\/a><\/b>, Laura Dern<\/a><\/b>, and Zo\u00eb Kravitz<\/b><\/a>\u2014did not confirm whether they are on board for the third season. A potential release date was set for sometime in 2024, but production faced delays due to the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.<\/p>\n Kidman admitted she may have shared the news a bit prematurely when she announced the next season last November. \u201cI got excited,\u201d the Perfect Couple<\/em> star told Vanity Fair<\/em><\/a>\u00a0in a joint interview with Witherspoon in June. \u201cBut we are now! We\u2019re moving fast and furious, and Liane is delivering the book. Yeah, and we\u2019re in good shape.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe talked about doing a season 3 a lot and, unfortunately, Jean-Marc Vall\u00e9e, our incredible director, passed away this last year, and I just can\u2019t imagine going on without him,\u201d the Batman<\/i> actress explained in a 2022 TikTok video.<\/p>\n As of now, only Kidman and Witherspoon have confirmed their participation in the Season 3 cast. Previously, other actors expressed uncertainty about returning for a third season. In fact, Kravitz once stated she \u201cdoubted\u201d they would ever return to the Big Little Lies<\/em> set.<\/p>\n \u201cWe talked about doing a Season 3 a lot, and unfortunately, Jean-Marc Vall\u00e9e, our incredible director, passed away this last year. I just can\u2019t imagine going on without him,\u201d the Batman<\/em> actress explained in a 2022 TikTok video.<\/p>\n Meryl Streep<\/b><\/a> also made a significant impact in Season 2<\/a>, so fans are hoping she will return, especially considering the way her character and Nicole\u2019s character concluded in the Season 2 finale.<\/p>\n At the end of season 2, Meryl\u2019s character, Mary Louise, and Nicole\u2019s Celeste faced off, and more details about Perry\u2019s death were revealed (Perry is played by Alexander Skarsgard<\/b><\/a>). It was revealed that Mary Louise lost control while driving her sons, resulting in the accidental death of Perry\u2019s brother.
