Now, an update has been revealed by both the ILA and the United States Maritime Alliance, Ltd. (USMX). So, is the port strike over?<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-3\">After the revolutionary strike commenced, ILA president<strong> Harold Daggett<\/strong> claimed that USMX \u201cbrought on this strike when they decided to hold firm to foreign owned ocean carriers earning billion-dollar profits at United States ports, but not compensate the American ILA longshore workers who perform the labor that brings them their wealth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-4\">\u201cWe are prepared to fight as long as necessary, to stay out on strike for whatever period of time it takes, to get the wages and protections against automation our ILA members deserve,\u201d Daggett said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-5\">USMX noted in a statement earlier this week that it was \u201ccommitted to bargaining in good faith to address the ILA\u2019s demands and USMX\u2019s concerns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-6\">Find out the latest update regarding the 2024 port strike, below.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I congratulate the 50,000 port workers who went on strike against the outrageous corporate greed of the shipping industry &amp; won an historic increase in wages. <\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-7\">Billionaires in the shipping industry must not be allowed to get even richer by replacing port workers with robots. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/PbFdg6XwtS\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\">pic.twitter.com\/PbFdg6XwtS<\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-8\">\u2014 Bernie Sanders (@SenSanders) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenSanders\/status\/1842003494519345379?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\">October 4, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Is the Port Strike Over?<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-10\">In a joint <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ILAUnion\/posts\/941718281326238\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\">statement<\/a> shared via social media on Thursday, October 3, the ILA and the USMX suspended the strike upon reaching a \u201ctentative\u201d agreement.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-11\">\u201cThe International Longshoremen\u2019s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance, Ltd. have reached a tentative agreement on wages and have agreed to extend the Master Contract until January 15, 2025, to return to the bargaining table to negotiate all other outstanding issues,\u201d the statement read. \u201cEffective immediately, all current job actions will cease and all work covered by the Master Contract will resume.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Why Did Dockworkers Go on Strike?<\/h2>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-12\">The strike was the ILA\u2019s first since 1977. He has been the union\u2019s president since 2011. The 78-year-old was seen leading dockworkers on the picket lines this week. Per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/10\/03\/business\/port-strike-ila-president-harold-daggett\/index.html#:~:text=Meet%20Harold%20Daggett%2C%20the%20colorful,CNN%20Business\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\">CNN<\/a>, Daggett was heard telling his fellow ILA members, \u201cIf we have to be out here a month or two months, this world will collapse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-15\">The strike was projected to halt the flow of popular goods that Americans consume, including produce from grocery stores.<\/p>\n<p id=\"content-paragraph-16\">Daggett has supported Republican candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/hollywoodlife.com\/celeb\/donald-trump\/\" data-analytics-trigger=\"article-body-link\"><strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> <\/a>over the years.
