John Amos<\/strong><\/a> was renowned for his film and television roles \u2014 specifically in Good Times<\/em><\/a> and Roots<\/em>. With an acting career spanning five decades, the New Jersey native built a long-lasting legacy in the entertainment world. John died<\/a>\u00a0at home during the summer of 2024, which one of his children confirmed nearly two months later, and reportedly revealed his cause of death in a statement.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned,\u201d John\u2019s son, K.C. Amos, said in a statement, obtained by PEOPLE<\/em><\/a>. \u201cHe was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold \u2026 and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.\u201d<\/p>\n K.C. continued,\u00a0\u201cMy father loved working as an actor throughout his entire life. After three seasons on the show, however, John\u2019s character was taken out of the storyline. Years later, the actor revealed that he had multiple disagreements with the series\u2019 writers.<\/p>\n During a 2017 interview, John pointed out that when production on Good Times<\/em> began, the set \u201chad no African-American writers on the show, and some of the attitudes they had written, as per my character and, frankly, for some of the other characters as well, caused me to say, \u2018Uh uh, we can\u2019t do this, we can\u2019t do that.\u2019 And they\u2019d say, \u2018What do you mean we can\u2019t do this?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019d go on about their credits and the rest of that, and I\u2019d look at each and every one of them and say, \u2018Well, how long have you been Black? That just doesn\u2019t happen in the community. We don\u2019t think that way. We don\u2019t act that way. We don\u2019t let our children do that,’\u201d\u00a0John said, according to Ebony.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n Per PEOPLE<\/em>, K.C. confirmed that John died of natural causes. In his statement, K.C. mentioned that his late father had \u201ctransitioned.\u201d<\/p>\n John shares his son, Kelly Christopher \u201cK.C.\u201d Amos<\/strong>, and his daughter, Shannon Amos<\/strong>, with his first wife, Noel Mickelson<\/strong><\/a>. John and Noel were married from 1965 to 1975. He then moved on with his second wife, actress Lillian Lehman<\/strong>.
