Following the Harris-Trump presidential debate<\/a> in September, Republican Sen. J.D. Vance<\/strong><\/a> of Ohio and Democratic Gov. Tim Walz<\/strong><\/a> of Minnesota will face off in a vice-presidential debate hosted by CBS News. This event takes place five weeks before voters head to the polls for the General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 5.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s everything you need to know about the vice-presidential debate, including how to watch it tonight.<\/p>\n The debate is being hosted by CBS News, so it will be broadcast live on CBS and streamed on the CBS YouTube channel. Both campaigns soon agreed to the Oct. 1 date.<\/p>\n \u201cSee you on October 1, JD,\u201d Walz posted on\u00a0X<\/a>\u00a0on Aug. 14.<\/p>\n Vance agreed to the date, stating that the \u201cAmerican people deserve as many debates as possible.\u201d However, he also challenged Walz to an additional debate on Sept. 18, which CNN offered to host.\u00a0Michael Tyler<\/strong>, the communications director for Kamala Harris<\/strong><\/a>\u2018 campaign, later told CBS News that Walz would only participate in the Oct. 1 debate.<\/p>\n \u201cThe debate about debates is over. Donald Trump\u2019s campaign accepted our proposal for three debates \u2014 two presidential and a vice-presidential debate.\u201d<\/p>\n Typically, there is only one vice-presidential debate in U.S. elections, and the likelihood of another presidential debate also seems low. In the immediate aftermath of the Sept. 10 presidential debate, Harris\u2019 campaign issued a statement saying, \u201cVice President Harris is ready for a second debate.
