The\u00a0John Wick\u00a0<\/em>movies are jam-packed with memorable characters, and one of the most well-received by fans so far has been \u00a0<\/strong>ballerina assassin Eve Macarro. After the character made her debut in John Wick: Chapter 3\u2014Parabellum,\u00a0<\/em>Eve is going to get her own spinoff film in 2024, fittingly titled Ballerina.\u00a0<\/em>The movie will mark the debut for critically-acclaimed actress\u00a0Ana De Armas<\/a> <\/strong>and is sure to be a hit with fans of the original series, giving her character much more backstory. It\u2019s not the only spinoff in the works. A TV series called\u00a0The Continental<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>is also expected to debut in the near future, as well as\u00a0John Wick 5.\u00a0<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n

Hollywood Life <\/strong>has compiled all the details you need to know about the upcoming movie, including what to expect before it hits the big screen in 2024. Keep reading to learn more about the Ana De Armas<\/a>-starring film.<\/p>\n

\u2018Ballerina\u2019 Release Date<\/h2>\n

Ballerina\u00a0<\/em>has been a project that\u2019s long been in development, since 2017. It was originally written as its own film, before becoming part of the John Wick\u00a0<\/em>series. While it\u2019s been a work in progress for about six years, the movie will officially hit theaters on June 6, 2025.<\/p>\n

Cast & Crew<\/h2>\n

While the movie will feature some fresh faces, many of the cast members of\u00a0Ballerina\u00a0<\/em>will be very familiar to diehard fans of\u00a0John Wick.\u00a0<\/em>Of course,\u00a0Keanu Reeves<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is expected to make an appearance as the Baba Yaga himself.\u00a0Anjelica Huston\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cThe Director\u201d is expected to play prominently in the film.\u00a0Ian McShane\u00a0<\/strong>and the late Lance Reddick\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>are also expected to appear as their characters Winston Scott and Charon, respectively. The movie will be one of Lance\u2019s<\/a> final posthumous film roles<\/a>, after his death from heart disease<\/a> in March 2023.<\/p>\n

As you could probably guess, Ana de Armas will take on the title role of Eve, but it\u2019s actually her debut in the John Wick\u00a0<\/em>franchise. The ballerina assassin had previously appeared in the third John Wick\u00a0<\/em>film, but the character was played by ballerina\u00a0Unity Phelan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Besides Ana, there are a few more newcomers whose roles have not been divulged just yet!\u00a0Norman Reedus, Catalina Sandino Moreno,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Gabriel Byrne\u00a0<\/strong>all have been cast in the film, but their characters have not yet been revealed, per\u00a0IMDb<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Behind the camera,\u00a0Len Wiseman\u00a0<\/strong>is set to direct. He\u2019s previously served as producer on major blockbusters like\u00a0Total Recall\u00a0<\/em>and a number of the\u00a0Underworld\u00a0<\/em>films. He also directed the first\u00a0Underworld\u00a0<\/em>in 2003 and a few different episodes of TV. As a writer, he created the TV series\u00a0Sleepy Hollow\u00a0<\/em>and the\u00a0Underworld\u00a0<\/em>series.<\/p>\n

The script was originally written by\u00a0Shay Hatten,\u00a0<\/strong>who also wrote\u00a0John Wick: Chapter 3\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Chapter 4.\u00a0<\/em>Some of his other credits include the action comedy\u00a0Day Shift\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Army of Thieves,\u00a0<\/em>which was co-written with\u00a0Zack Snyder.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Plot<\/h2>\n

While there are still many details of the plot to\u00a0Ballerina\u00a0<\/em>that are expected to be released, the basic story is that a female assassin sets out to get revenge on the people who killed her family members. It also reportedly takes place between the third and fourth\u00a0<\/a>John Wick<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>films. The new movie is expected to give some new details about the mysterious Ruska Roma family, which John was raised in and trained to become an assassin.<\/p>\n

While many details are sparse, Keanu revealed that the movie will follow a woman seeking \u201crevenge\u201d in an appearance at Comic-Con in 2022. \u201cSomeone killed her father. Who could that be? And so it\u2019s her journey for actually understanding her past. She lost her father at a young age, and she doesn\u2019t really know what happened. Only that someone came into the house and killed her father, who had a tattoo. And as we know in\u00a0John Wick<\/em>, if you have a tattoo, something\u2019s going on,\u201d he said, per\u00a0Collider<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Shay also revealed that the new movie will also shed light on some details from John Wick\u2019s past in a March 2023 interview with\u00a0Screen Rant.<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>\u201cI think in Ballerina<\/em> you\u2019ll get to see some of the hints of what John experienced during his origins in that place, but through the eyes of a different character. It still solves some of the answers of Wick<\/em>, just through the eyes of a new character,\u201d the screenwriter said.<\/p>\n

Behind the Scenes<\/h2>\n

As mentioned above, the script was originally written as its own film, before retro-fitted for\u00a0John Wick.\u00a0<\/em>Lionsgate purchased the project in July 2017, per\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter.<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>Len was brought on to direct in October 2019, per\u00a0Deadline<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>After it was bought, some breadcrumbs were placed in the third\u00a0John Wick\u00a0<\/em>movie. Shay opened up about some of the original details in his spec in the above-mentioned\u00a0Screen Rant\u00a0<\/em>interview. \u201cThe original script was set into Swiss Alps, which is territory that the John Wick<\/em> movies have not touched. So, I think in a great way, it meant that we could kind of stick to the original story of that script from Ballerina<\/em> without stepping on the toes of John Wick,<\/em>\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

While Unity Phelan originated the role in\u00a0John Wick 3,\u00a0<\/em>Ana<\/a> was announced as the leading lady for the movie in a CinemaCon panel in April 2022, per\u00a0Comic Book.<\/a> <\/em>It was also announced that\u00a0Marco Beltrami\u00a0<\/strong>(who scored\u00a0Scream, A Quiet Place,\u00a0<\/em>and more) was teaming up with\u00a0Anna Drubich\u00a0<\/strong>(who scored\u00a0Barbarian\u00a0<\/em>and more) to compose the film\u2019s music, per\u00a0Film Music Reporter.\u00a0<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

The movie reportedly started filming in Prague in November 2022, according to\u00a0The Prague Reporter<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>The film is reportedly in post-production, according to\u00a0IMDb<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
