Kris Kristofferson<\/strong> will always be remembered for his prolific music and acting career. The late singer died<\/a> at the age of 88 in September 2024, three years after he announced his retirement from the entertainment industry. His family released a statement confirming the news, and no cause of death was disclosed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband\/father\/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28 at home,\u201d the statement from Kris\u2019 wife and children read. \u201cWe\u2019re all so blessed for our time with him. Thank you for loving him all these many years, and when you see a rainbow, know he\u2019s smiling down at us all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kris Kristofferson Was in A Star Is Born<\/em> 1976<\/h2>\n

One of Kris\u2019 most defining roles of his acting career was playing John Norman Howard opposite Barbra Streisand<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s Esther Hoffman in 1976\u2019s A Star Is Born<\/em><\/a>. The film is a remake of the original 1937 movie. The co-stars remained friends for years after working together.<\/p>\n

While speaking with The U.S. Sun<\/em> <\/a>in April 2020, Kris said he was \u201cproud\u201d of the film but gave \u201cmost of the credit to Barbra.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy music got more attention after A Star Is Born,<\/em> and that helped support me and my band during the lean years,\u201d he explained to the publication.<\/p>\n

When the news broke of Kris\u2019 death in 2024, Barbra penned a heartfelt Instagram<\/a> tribute for her late co-star.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first time I saw Kris performing at the Troubadour club in L.A. I knew he was something special,\u201d the actress wrote alongside her carousel post. \u201cBarefoot and strumming his guitar, he seemed like the perfect choice for a script I was developing, which eventually became A Star Is Born<\/em>. In the movie, Kris and I sang the song I\u2019d written for the film\u2019s main love theme, \u2018Evergreen.’\u201d<\/p>\n

While recalling her 2019 performance with Kris in Hyde Park, London, Barbra described him as \u201ccharming as ever,\u201d and pointed out that the audience \u201cshowered him with applause.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a joy seeing him receive the recognition and love he so richly deserved,\u201d Barbra concluded. \u201cMy thoughts go to Kris\u2019 wife, Lisa who I know supported him in every way possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

He Was an Actor and a Musician<\/h2>\n

Landing his role in A Star Is Born<\/em> was fitting for Kris, as he was both an actor and a musician. His other popular film credits were in the movies Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, Lone Star<\/em> and the Blade<\/em> franchise.<\/p>\n

As for his music, Kris is known for his hits \u201cMe and Bobby McGee,\u201d \u201cFor the Good Times,\u201d \u201cHelp Me Make It Through the Night\u201d and several more.<\/p>\n

Kris Was Married Three Times<\/h2>\n

In 1961, Kris married his first wife, Frances Beer<\/strong>, and they divorced in 1969. Four years later, the late country music singer wed his second wife, Rita Coolidge<\/strong> in 1973. The couple divorced in 1980, and Kris moved on with his third wife, Lisa Meyers<\/strong> in 1983. The spouses remained married until Kris\u2019 death in 2024.<\/p>\n

He Had Eight Children<\/h2>\n

Kris was a father to eight children: Tracy, Kris Jr., Casey, Jesse, Jody, John, Kelly and Blake. Kris and his ex-wife Frances shared Tracey and Kris Jr. together, and the late musician shared Casey with his ex-wife Rita.<\/p>\n

Kris Died in 2024<\/h2>\n
