Ryan Murphy<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s latest subjects for his Monster<\/em><\/a> anthology series are not pleased with the show\u2019s depiction of their lives and story.<\/p>\n On Friday, September 20, Erik Menendez<\/strong><\/a>\u2014one of the subjects of Netflix\u2019s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Men\u00e9ndez Story<\/em><\/a>\u2014released a statement on his brother Lyle Menendez<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s Facebook<\/a> page, criticizing the new series. The show stars\u00a0Nicholas Alexander Chavez<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Cooper Koch<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>as Lyle and Erik, with\u00a0Javier Bardem<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Chlo\u00eb Sevigny<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>portraying their parents,\u00a0Jose<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Kitty<\/a> Menendez<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n Here\u2019s everything to know about the Menendez brothers<\/a>\u2018 feelings regarding this increasingly popular show.<\/p>\n Erik, now 53, criticized the portrayals of himself and his brother Lyle, 56, claiming they were abused by their parents and acted in self-defense when they murdered<\/a> them on August 20, 1989. He reflected on the trauma and violence they experienced in childhood, asserting that the show does not depict their story accurately.<\/p>\n \u201cI believed we had moved beyond the lies and ruinous character portrayals of Lyle, creating a caricature of him rooted in horrible and blatant lies rampant in the show,\u201d Erik began. \u201cI can only believe these were done on purpose. It is with a heavy heart that I say, I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be this naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives so as to do this without bad intent.\u201d<\/p>\n He added, \u201cIt is sad for me to know that Netflix\u2019s dishonest portrayal of the tragedies surrounding our crime has taken the painful truths several steps backward\u2014back through time to an era when the prosecution built a narrative based on the belief that males were not sexually abused, and that males experienced rape trauma differently than women.\u201d<\/p>\n Erik continued to claim that Murphy \u201cshapes his narrative through vile and appalling character portrayals of Lyle and me, which is disheartening slander.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIs the truth not enough? This eight-episode special, part of the Law & Order<\/em> anthology series, delved deeply into the lives of the siblings, exploring the murders of their parents and the subsequent trials.
