With the presidential election around the corner, Saturday Night Live<\/em> is likely gearing up for political comedy skits in its 50th season. The show has previously had actors portray former President Donald Trump<\/a><\/strong>, and with the new season approaching, many wonder if he will be featured again. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/span><\/i><\/a> published on Thursday, September 19, SNL<\/em> creator Lorne Michaels<\/a><\/strong> said,\u00a0\u201c<\/span>I think there\u2019s two things happening at the same time at <\/span>SNL<\/span><\/i>: an election \u2014 and I\u2019m tired of everybody telling us it\u2019s the most consequential one in history because there\u2019ve been a lot of big elections \u2014 and the 50th anniversary. <\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n With season 50 set to premiere on Saturday, September 28, the question remains: how will the show, which began in 1975, reinvent the 78-year-old political figure? According to the 79-year-old filmmaker, he told THR<\/span><\/i><\/a>, \u201cI want to celebrate this season with people coming back who\u2019ve been part of the show and who love the show \u2014 not so much as hosts but just making appearances, and so the election is a chance for that because that\u2019s five or six shows. \u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Lorne explained to the outlet,\u00a0\u201cTrump has morphed\u2026We are going to have to reinvent it again because, well, you saw the debate. One of the great parts of show business is that you can\u2019t come back with the same show. So, all of these characters have to be reexamined.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n When it comes to politics, SNL<\/em> sticks to its comedic roots. He added,\u00a0\u201cIt has to be comedy. We\u2019re first and foremost a comedy show.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n While the actor portraying Trump this season hasn\u2019t been officially revealed, Lorne did confirm to The Hollywood Reporter<\/span><\/i><\/a> that the actors have already been chosen. He mentioned that James Austin Johnson<\/strong><\/a>, who has previously played Trump, \u201cwill be there.\u201d\u00a0Alec Baldwin<\/strong><\/a>, who famously portrayed Trump on the show, may also return.<\/p>\n Although Trump\u2019s role is still unclear, the role of Vice President Kamala Harris<\/strong> <\/a>has been confirmed.
