John and Kate\u2019s marriage is a true love story for the ages. Below,\u00a0Hollywood Life <\/strong>has rounded up everything you need to know about Kate and her marriage to John Oliver.<\/p>\n

Who Is Kate Norley?<\/h2>\n

Kate Norley enlisted in the U.S. Army when she was just 19 years old. She wanted to serve her country after the 9\/11 terrorist attacks. Kate worked as both a combat medic and a\u00a0mental health specialist when she was in Iraq, according to\u00a0The Sun<\/em><\/a>. Once she returned to the U.S., Kate dedicated herself towards veteran support by working with the organization\u00a0Vets for Freedom<\/a>. Kate is a Republican<\/a>, while her husband is a Democrat.<\/p>\n

How Did John Oliver Meet Kate?<\/h2>\n

John and Kate met in\u00a02008 at the Republican National Convention. John was covering the event for\u00a0The Daily Show<\/em><\/a>, while Kate was there promoting Vets for Freedom. John, who is British, had a temporary work visa at the time, and he was nearly deported that night if it wasn\u2019t for Kate. Kate and a group of veterans helped hide John from the security team who caught him in a restricted area and would\u2019ve arrested him, according to The Daily Beast<\/em><\/a>. John and Kate hit it off that night and they started dating shortly after!<\/p>\n

John and Kate\u2019s Marriage<\/h2>\n

John and Kate got engaged in July 2010 in St. Thomas. After the engagement, Kate told\u00a0PEOPLE<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0\u201cI was a medic in the Army. It was difficult, but right now it\u2019s nice that I get to spend time with the love of my life.\u201d John said, \u201cIt\u2019s the most emasculating thing I could possibly do to go out with someone who has actually done something valuable with their life.\u201d<\/p>\n

One year after their engagement, John and Kate tied the knot in October 2011 in a private ceremony. They have kept most of the details about their wedding private over the years.<\/p>\n

John and Kate\u2019s Children<\/h2>\n

John and Kate share two sons, born in 2015 and 2018. Their first son,\u00a0Hudson<\/strong>, was born prematurely. \u201cKate was in the hospital, it was very difficult for months beforehand,\u201d John previously told the Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>\u00a0about Kate\u2019s pregnancy. \u201cAnd doing the show at the same time, it was the absolute worst\u2026 It was a surreal experience,\u201d he added. John didn\u2019t reveal Hudson\u2019s birth until over a year and a half later. \u201cI have a son. He is 19 months old. He was born prematurely following a very difficult pregnancy,\u201d he said on an episode of\u00a0Last Week Tonight<\/em>.\u00a0John also kept his second son\u2019s birth a secret until his child was three months old. He shared the news to PEOPLE<\/em><\/a> at the 2018 Emmy Awards Governors Ball.<\/p>\n

John eventually explained why he didn\u2019t outright announce his sons\u2019 births on\u00a0Jimmy Fallon<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s talk show in November 2018. \u201cWe didn\u2019t really announce it because it doesn\u2019t matter,\u201d he said on the talk show. \u201cTo me, it matters a great deal. Let me make that clear.\u201d John further said, \u201cThis is not a royal baby. In terms of how far in line he is to the throne, it\u2019s a peasant. I have a peasant child. So it didn\u2019t even cross my mind that we should make a public thing about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
