The 76th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be hosted by legendary comedy actor Eugene Levy<\/strong><\/a> and his actor-producer son, Dan Levy<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s everything you need to know about the Levys, both four-time Emmy winners, as they host the ceremony this Sunday.<\/p>\n Eugene and Dan are part of a well-known Canadian family in the entertainment industry.<\/p>\n Dan\u2019s sister, Sarah Levy<\/strong>, has also pursued a career in acting and starred in Schitt\u2019s Creek<\/em> alongside her brother and father, while their mother, Deborah Divine<\/strong>, is a producer and screenwriter. Deborah, who has been married to the American Pie<\/em> actor since 1977, has production credits on \u201990s TV shows like Another World<\/em> and Higgins Boys and Gruber<\/em>. She also served as a production manager on Search for Tomorrow<\/em> and The Edge of Night<\/em> and is credited as a screenwriter for the TV series Maniac Mansion<\/em>.<\/p>\n Eugene credits Deborah with the decision to raise their family in Toronto instead of a showbiz hub like Los Angeles or New York City. \u201cThere\u2019s something about raising kids in a show-bizzy kind of environment that\u2019s a little scary,\u201d he told PEOPLE<\/em> in 2019. \u201cToronto is just a very normal town. They could grow up with all options open to them of what they wanted to do. We didn\u2019t want them to be locked into show business. Of course, the irony is they both went into acting \u2014 and now we\u2019re all on a show together.\u201d<\/p>\n Dan and Eugene, the creators of Schitt\u2019s Creek<\/em>, made Emmy history in September 2020 when the final season of the show swept the comedy categories during a virtual ceremony held due to the pandemic. Dan became the first performer to win four Emmys in a single prime-time telecast for writing, directing, best supporting actor, and best comedy series. His acting credits include his breakout role in Schitt\u2019s Creek<\/em>, alongside his father, as well as guest roles in series like Curb Your Enthusiasm<\/em>, Sex Education<\/em>, and The Idol<\/em>.<\/p>\n Eugene\u2019s acting career spans more than 50 years, with television credits including SCTV<\/em> and Schitt\u2019s Creek<\/em>. On film, he has starred in comedy classics such as Waiting for Guffman<\/em>, Best in Show<\/em>, and A Mighty Wind<\/em>. Currently, Eugene appears as himself, playing the actor version of Steve Martin\u2019s character in Only Murders in the Building<\/em>.<\/p>\n Both Eugene and Dan are Primetime Emmy winners. Eugene has four Emmys\u2014two of them for Schitt\u2019s Creek<\/em>\u2014including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Comedy Series as a producer in 2020.<\/p>\n \u201cWe hope to kick it off in a way that\u2019s kind of energized,\u201d Eugene told On The Red Carpet\u2019s<\/em> George Pennacchio<\/strong> about\u00a0their hosting plan.<\/p>\n The Levys are planning to take a \u201cgentler approach\u201d to their Emmys hosting gig. \u201cJust paying tribute to television, certainly the nominees, but also to the medium that gave us both our starts,\u201d Eugene explained in a Los Angeles Times<\/em> profile he shared with his son. \u201cIt\u2019s always struck me as odd when jokes are made at the expense of the nominees \u2014 they\u2019ve put in the work, and it\u2019s their night. You have to have enough respect for the awards show itself. Otherwise, why are we here?\u201d<\/p>\n Dan added that they both want the show \u201cto feel celebratory\u201d while still maintaining \u201ca bit of an edge.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cPeople, from what I\u2019ve been told, are kind of excited that we\u2019re not hard-edged comics, that there will be a kind of warmth to the room,\u201d Dan continued. \u201cIt\u2019s trying to marry all of those things without being boring, ultimately. But we\u2019re getting there.\u201d<\/p>\n When asked by Pennacchio about the number of surprises they have planned for the show, Eugene responded without hesitation, \u201cEleven.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m also going with eleven,\u201d Dan echoed.<\/p>\n A star-studded lineup will be presenting the statuettes at the award show, bringing together a mix of Hollywood legends and contemporary talent.
