Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris<\/strong> <\/a>and Republican candidate Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a> began their heated debate<\/a> on Tuesday, September 10. In the weeks leading up to the highly anticipated event<\/a>, both candidates aggressively campaigned in swing states around the nation while they gear up for this year\u2019s election.<\/p>\n

Below, Hollywood Life<\/strong> has rounded up the highlights from the Harris versus Trump debate.<\/p>\n

Harris Initiates a Handshake With Trump<\/h2>\n

At the start of the presidential debate, Harris and Trump approached the stage and looked at each other. Following a brief moment, the vice president walked over to the former host of The Apprentice and introduced herself before shaking his hand. Both then took to their individual podiums.<\/p>\n

Trump Calls Harris a \u2018Marxist\u2019<\/h2>\n

Not even 15 minutes into the debate, Trump called Harris a \u201cmarxist\u201d while ranting about her and President Joe Biden\u2019s policies. The Republican even teased he\u2019d \u201cgive her a MAGA hat,\u201d referring to his 2016 campaign\u2019s slogan, \u201cMake America Great Again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump Says He Won\u2019t Ban Abortions<\/h2>\n

After Harris slammed Trump over his choices in packing the Supreme Court, the Republican answered a moderator by clarifying that he would not incite a nationwide abortion ban. After the moderators pointed out that J.D. Vance<\/strong> said they\u2019re in favor of a veto, Trump rejected this and admitted he hadn\u2019t spoken to his running mate about it.<\/p>\n

\u2018They\u2019re Eating the Dogs\u2019<\/h2>\n

Trump claimed that certain immigrants were \u201ceating the dogs\u201d and cats. After moderator David Muir<\/strong> fact-checked Trump\u2019s answer, the Republican doubled down on his point by insisting that some immigrants were eating animals.<\/p>\n
