Mariah Carey<\/strong> is speaking out after revealing in late August that her mother, Patricia<\/strong>, and sister, Alison<\/strong>, died on the same day.<\/p>\n \u201cBack at work,\u201d the \u201cFly Like A Bird\u201d singer said on Sunday, Sept. 8, in an Instagram<\/a> post. \u201cIt\u2019s been a couple of rough weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI appreciate everyone\u2019s love and support so much, and I can\u2019t wait to see my fans in China and Brazil,\u201d Carey, 55, added in a clip where she sings a slow, stripped-down version of her 2005 track \u201cIt\u2019s Like That.\u201d When the musician first shared the news of her family members\u2019 deaths, she asked for privacy while processing the tragic events.<\/p>\n The Grammy winner is set to perform in China on September 15 and 16, followed by shows in Brazil on September 20 and 22. She uploaded another video of herself singing her tune \u201cI Wish You Knew,\u201d captioning the post, \u201cI Wish You Knew, dedicated to my fans in China and Brazil! See you soon.\u201d<\/p>\n On Aug. 26, Carey addressed the deaths in a statement: \u201cMy heart is broken that I\u2019ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,\u201d she added. \u201cI appreciate everyone\u2019s love, support, and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.\u201d<\/p>\n Over the years, the \u201cAlways Be My Baby\u201d singer has been candid about her strained relationships with her mother\u2014who was a Juilliard-trained opera singer and vocal coach\u2014and her sister Alison. In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey<\/em>, she wrote that her relationship with her mother \u201chas caused me so much pain and confusion.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cFor my sanity and peace of mind, my therapist encouraged me to literally rename and reframe my family,\u201d she wrote. \u201cMy mother became Pat to me, Morgan my ex-brother, and Alison my ex-sister\u2026 I had to stop expecting them to one day miraculously become the mommy, big brother, and big sister I fantasized about.\u201d<\/p>\n David Baker<\/strong>, a patient advocate who knew Alison personally, told PEOPLE<\/a> that Alison\u2014a mother of four\u2014was \u201ca highly intelligent, very sensitive person,\u201d but added, \u201cWe saw it coming, but it\u2019s still a shock. She got ill fairly quickly, and a month later, she\u2019s gone.\u201d<\/p>\n Carey\u2019s brother, Morgan<\/strong>, also told the outlet in a statement after his mother and sister\u2019s deaths: \u201cI\u2019m praying for them and hope they are finally at peace.
