Gates, 68, said he intends to keep working for at least another two decades if his health allows\u2014following in the footsteps of the 94-year-old Berkshire Hathaway CEO<\/a>. <\/p>\n That\u2019s because retirement \u201csounds awful\u201d to Gates, a father of three<\/a>. <\/p>\n \u201cMy friend Warren Buffett still comes into the office\u00a0six days a week,\u201d Gates told CNBC Make It<\/a><\/em> in an interview released over the weekend. \u201cSo, I hope my health allows me to be like Warren.\u201d<\/p>\n Buffett, though, is clearly aware that time is marching on. <\/p>\n Following the death of his friend and right-hand man, Charlie Munger<\/a>, in November last year, Buffett has spoken multiple times<\/a> about what will happen to his $145 billion fortune<\/a>.<\/p>\n That has included previewing his will and confirming that, following his death, no further funds will be given to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. <\/a><\/p>\n Gates is keen to continue the work for this foundation over the next few decades.<\/p>\n The foundation has spent more than $53 billion<\/a> since 2000, hoping to help<\/a> with issues such as eradicating polio<\/a>, water sanitization, and agricultural development.<\/p>\n But there are landmarks yet to be met, which Gates is determined to be involved in.<\/p>\n \u201cThe [Bill & Melinda Gates] Foundation will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year. We haven\u2019t gotten rid of polio, we haven\u2019t got rid of malaria. I\u2019m very, very committed to those things,\u201d says Gates. \u201cWe want to cut childhood deaths in half\u00a0again, from 5 million to 2.5 million.\u201d<\/p>\n Perhaps unsurprisingly, helping achieve this goal will mean a lot of work, which is why Gates is eyeing \u201cat least 10 years, if my health allows, working at this level.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHopefully it\u2019ll be more like 20 or 30,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n While Gates intends to continue working at a high level, he won\u2019t do so with the same tenacity as he did when he launched Microsoft.<\/p>\n While launching the $2.99 trillion behemoth with childhood friend Paul Allen, Gates would stand in his office overlooking the car park to see which of his employees were leaving first. <\/p>\n Sleeping as little as possible became something of a competition with peers<\/a>, the man worth $157 billion<\/a> said on his podcast\u00a0Unconfuse Me with Bill Gates<\/a><\/em> last year. <\/p>\n The tech tycoon told comedian Seth Rogen and Rogen\u2019s wife, Lauren Miller Rogen: \u201cIn my thirties and forties when there would be a conversation about sleep it would be like \u2018Oh,, I only sleep six hours.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cAnd the other guy says \u2018Oh, I only sleep five,\u2019 then \u2018Well, sometimes I don\u2019t sleep at all.\u2019 I\u2019d be like \u2018Wow, those guys are so good, I have to try harder because sleep is laziness and unnecessary.’\u201d<\/p>\n Since then, Gates has changed his tune, telling CNBC<\/em>: \u201cI don\u2019t work as hard 1725878927. In my 20s,\u00a0I didn\u2019t believe in weekends and vacations. So, that was kind of out of control<\/a>, how I pushed myself.\u201d<\/p>\n On his podcast with Rogen and Miller Rogen last August, Gates discussed Alzheimer\u2019s\u2014a topic he is still heavily invested in.<\/p>\n Bill Gates Sr. died at home in\u00a0September 2020<\/a>\u00a0after a battle with Alzheimer\u2019s, which had begun more than a decade prior.<\/p>\n \u201cI spent yesterday on Alzheimer\u2019s disease,\u201d Gates told CNBC<\/em>. \u201cIntellectually, in terms of staying up to date\u2014even just on [artificial intelligence] alone\u2014takes a lot of time. But it\u2019s still incredibly fulfilling.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\nChange of pace<\/h2>\n
